Since the Islamic State (IS) seized Mosul in June 2014 it has been destroying historic sites throughout the area. In the summer of 2014 for example it bombed (http://www.ibtimes.com/isis-torches-1500-historic-manuscripts-iraq-sells-looted-artifacts-black-market-1845720) the Ibn al-Atheer shrine and the Mosque of the Prophet Yunus.
