Armed Groups Reject Al Zarqawi's Call and Describe it as a Fire Burning Sunnis and Shiaas This article is interesting as it denuonces the terrorist acts against other Iraqis, it seems to me they are starting to think as one people. It also mentions that Zarqawi was killed several months ago.

This is disconcerting. My own American media I am always willing to discredit on the basis of the horrific spin it places on the topic of Iraq.

This just seems like an outright poll which tabulates that the constitution will not be passed. These people do not like us, the problem is what do they think will happen if the constitution is voted down? It only means more time that us Devils from the West have to spend in their sandbox. That article definately did not fill me with promise.

It sounds promising but the article also clearly states that there are plenty of organizations that want to continue the 'resistance' or insurgency.

I'm not much into conspiracies. There are those silly people who believe that Osama and Zarqawi have been captured and or dead for a long time and Al Qaeda (or worse our own government) is using their 'legends' for propoganda and covert missions.

I call hog wash. The President's approval rating is at a treacherous low, if ever right now he badly needs a get out of jail free card. If he had that card to play in the form of Osama or Zarqawi's heads he'd have already put them on a pike on the White House lawn.

They are not dead and we do not have them.

Iraq concludes first phase of commercial debt restructuring

http://menafn.com/qn_news_story_s.asp?StoryId=107460

I thought I had seen something similar mentioned before. However, I read this and the last paragraph I found interesting as it mentions that Iraq will begin a second phase of settling commercial claims for "cash" and to be done with it by the end of 2005. My question would then be where would they get enough cash to settle claims? They do have USD in reserves, but I don't think they would use that. Maybe Dinars? Also, it mentions end of 2005, could it be the fall of 2005? That's something that was thrown about way back when.

Teslyn,

That article abou the constitution poll did not mention how many people were polled. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Look at the good part 40+% will approve--near half. Also remember that the Iraqis still have not received a copy of the constitution for them to review.

"...a survey among its visitors"? What does that mean? This does not sound like a scientific poll at all, or even a poll of Iraqis. With no numbers on how many were polled, a margin of error, or even who the sample refers to (could very well be anti-Bush reporters from Reuters and the New York Times for all we know), there's no way to interpret this poll in any way.

To your question on where would they get that amount of USD for the debt. The Dinar valuation was part of debt settlement plan and an agreement was by creditors to not exchange there Dinar untill after a given time period. This is according to my understanding of articles referenced to on the board and news papers I read. Sorry I don't have them now. It's been quite a while back.

Not sure how many Iraqis participated, since it hasn't even been distributed yet. I think some one just made this poll up at their desk.

I need to edit the post 1:1 for debt. Don’t see how so this is an amendment to. The source of info to the idea of 1:1 for debt relief come from a rumor. It was very late and thinking was not too clear. Apologies.
