GUN LAW CHANGES -- New Rules On Right-To-Carry In Our National Parks Take Effect Today
Friday, January 09, 2009
In early December, the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, announced the final amended version (http://www.doi.gov/news/08_News_Releases/120508.html)of a change to rules on carrying firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The change will restore the right of law-abiding gun owners to transport and carry concealed firearms for lawful purposes on most DOI lands, according to the laws of the states in which these public lands are located.
The new rule, which takes effect today, allows Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry concealed firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges in states that recognize their permits. The new rule will also put an end to the patchwork of regulations that governed different lands managed by different federal agencies. In the past, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service lands allowed the carrying of firearms, while lands managed by DOI did not.
The change was obviously Finish the Rest of the ARTICLE (http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=4292)

Michigan gun law to change
Beginning Wednesday, Michigan will no longer require a post-purchase safety inspection of handguns purchased. Currently, every time a handgun is purchased in Michigan, whether it is a commercial sale or a private sale between two individuals, the purchaser must take the pistol to their local police department and present it for "safety inspection." During these inspections, actual checks for safety really never took place. What was accomplished was that the make, model, caliber and serial number of the gun was registered to the purchaser. The Legislature has recognized the hypocrisy of this process and will now trust its citizens to send them the correct information regarding the handgun to be registered.

The language in the old law was to be interpreted that you were committing a criminal act by simply driving through some federal lands where the gun in your vehicle was perfectly legal before entering and upon exiting.....................why are anti-gun freaks so concerned about whether I have two extra rounds in my magazine ?

I'm an Eagle Scout. I am getting prepared.
Think about it.........The crap we have had to listen to and endure about the evil Bush-man, how he and he alone was responsible for the $1.3 Trillion debt. Now, Obama is going to double it on Jan. 22nd, and continue to do add $1 trillion every year! Then these stupid gerbils will start take everything, like the parasites they are.
The whole world is in a recession. Germany has good credit, and can't get a loan. WTF are we going to secure a Trillion $$ with?.Our jobs, our property, our food sources, our electricity, our lives!
Prepare now. How many people do you really know well enough to trust in the Obama Nazi Youth Corps?
Think next month is too soon. I wish I could agree, but I can't. Lookat the speed in which we are being sold out. Just look at the last 4 months! Now look at how this guy is putting his foot down on the acelerator, and he's not even in there yet!
Get prepared.

Daddy....I am hoping to be prepared. It is slow going at the moment so I guess for me it will be a race against the clock.
of course, the things you say could happen next month but I think we got more time, just the same way I think we have some time with the IQD RV.
I hope not to be the fool on either issue...

I have been piling up on dry goods, canned goods, gallons of bottled water, and AMMO!
Every pay period is used to but a little of each. By February 1st, I will have 900+ rounds, several hundred pounds of rice, flour, sugar, and oats.
I need to concentrate a little more on the water though. More important than food.

geowhiz, here are two links to related stories of the need for personal protection on public land.
First link is about a bear dragging a young boy from his tent in the middle of the night. The dead body was later found a few hundred yards from the tent.
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=1363845
Now here is the real kick in the pants. Government agents knew the bear was in the area. The afternoon before the attack these same government agents passed the family in the campground, waved to them, but never warned the family that a bear causing trouble was in the area, even though the agents were at the very same time searching for the killer bear.
Notice in the story how the government wants to tell the family, too bad so sad, but we will not take responsibility for our criminal negligence that got your son killed.
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=4828105
So geowhiz, you feel free to be a lemming and imagine that the government will protect your backside, but DO NOT even think about forcing the rest of us to follow your flawed thinking!
I'd rather be a gun freak than a victim that spends the rest of my life living with regret for not taking the responsibility for protecting my family.

I got them from mostly restaurants years ago.
With raising 7 kids, we learned to buy everything in bulk, like flour, rice, etc. I found a place in Seattle (Twin Tee-Pees) that specialized in gigantic omletes. They bought all of their eggs in liquid (pre broken and scrambled) 5 gal. buckets. These are obviously food grade, and they have lasted so many years that it is just unbelievable.
Also, having horses, we have to buy supplements for their grain in similar containers. They are all air tight. They also stack quite well together to save room.

Costco is selling flour already in sealed 5 gallon drums, direct from the mill in Utah.
Daddy don't forget your generator ! the bigger the better. No doubt there is going to be a run on these similar to the run that had during Katrina -- The 5 gallon water bottles work well also.

Gun freak here.
I was camping in Wyoming (keyhole)one summer (fourth of July) and a couple of drunk idiots broke into a camper in the same area I was in. I lady was screaming and they continued to go through her stuff. I chased them off with my gun. Not sure how that would have gone without it.:bandit: Although, I do agree not everyone should carry one. Can cause more trouble than good. My wife carries and I carry. By the way, she is a better shot.

Survivors will eventually have to move to Alaska and fish for salmon along the coast. If you cant handle that duty, then you might get hungry like that dummy Christopher McCandless.

I bet I won't be able to trade my Obama coins for beans if the need arises but I'll be able to trade a couple cases of Ranch Style Beans for some serious gold coinage if need be.......
Overview
Ranch Style Beans are made with a delicious blend of spices that creates a unique, bold flavor synonymous with authentic Southwestern cookin'. Ranch Style Beans are great with just about anything: try them when grilling steaks, making Mexican food, or serving a favorite family recipe. Ranch Style Beans are hearty and true!
History
The Ranch Style brand traces its origins to a commissary established in 1872 in Denison, Texas. Ranch Style Beans were introduced in 1935 after three years of extensive research. Ranch Style Beans' versatility has endeared them to generations of bean lovers, including the rich and famous. Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, and Grace Kelly have ordered them. According to local lore, Ranch Style Beans were served at President Lyndon Johnson's ranch on many occasions.

Hi there Wolverine & DNM,
We have horses also although DNM, you must be feeding your ponies the good stuff like supplements & vitamins...ours only get the bagged version.
I did find a website that has various food grade containers as well as dehydrated & freeze dried food stuff. They also have liners that fit into the 4.25+ size buckets for additional food quality protection. The website is www.beprepared.com (http://www.beprepared.com). In addition, Emergency Essentials have already prepard meals, MRE and water storage barrels.
We just recently received an order so I haven't tested it out yet. I thought that the dehydrated sausage, eggs and vegetables will be great for the summer pack trips. We are trying to pair down the weight although have food for more days. And now I guess we are going to have to take in only certified horse feed, oh well bring on the pellets.

GEO,
I live in Utah and I would have a hard time driving through my own state without going into these said National Parks and State Parks (which would be their next agenda). I grew up in them, camp in them, fish in them, travel through them and basically that is our recreation around these parts let alone the tourism. This is when we need a gun the most. Last summer my buddy's 4-wheeler got ate (rack bag, fenders, seat, ect.), camper was messed with a bit and all his water bottles he had under his step were popped open like the bear was just having fun. It was kind of funny that a brown bear ate his GRIZZLY 660. We cant care much about all this but its only because no one was in the camper when it happened. Sometimes they just rip the door right off the campers and if your in it, you might would want a gun in a National Park too.
