By Simon Kent.
Kurdish and Yezidi forces made the grim discovery*of a mass grave over the weekend, containing the remains of up to 70 women near the town of Sinjar.
Sinjar, a key town on the approach to ISIS occupied Mosul, is home to many of the Yazidi community and was recently recaptured in a Kurdish–Iraqi offensive, having been held by the so called Islamic State since last year.
The Yazidi community (religious symbol pictured above)*shot to global attention in 2014 when ISIS launched what the UN called “attempted genocide” and killed and enslaved thousands of their ethnic group.
The Yazidi people have an ancient faith that ISIS consider devil worship, and many of their women have been used as sex slaves by the terror group.
