How long does opening a Warka account take?
Is the best way to buy shares through Mr I?
Aside a proxy not being in ones own name is there any other advantage of buying in your own name?
Do all Warka account holders have ebanking now?
As for what to purchase aside banks and possibly reconstruction companies what/where have you invested?
Thanks in advance, just emailed Mr I to start the ball rolling. The dong will be offloaded and I'll transfer some of my own money on top.

someone used the online registration process (http://www.warka-bank.com/individual.php) the other day saying it only took a few days. I think you should expect a good 2 weeks before you are able to purchase. Yes make sure you contact Mr. I with all of your dealings with Warka. Im still proxy, the only disadvantage is if the ISX suddenly requires the paperwork then proxy holders will have to scramble. There is a fee for online banking, but yes anyone can get it. Picks? I dont know
anyway good to see ya getting in

It didn't take too long to setup up the account for me. Less than a week to get my numbers and then 5 days (including a weekend) for my funds to show up. Their customer service is pretty good, but you can realistically only put in an order for stocks once a week. I had I pretty good system when I was buying:
submit my pick list Sunday, they would buy on Tuesday and the let me know what I actually got on Thursday. Then I had the weekend to figure out what else I wanted.
My only beef with Warka right now is that I still haven't gotten my free shares due me from last August which is frustrating. There was another broker I was looking at at one point but it was too much of a hassle for me to switch. I don't remember the name off the top of my head. I remember at the time that they could work with funds from Warka accts by transferring from you Warka acct to theirs.

Thanks JP. Think it has to be done now. Changed my mind due to them going electronic, all of these banking meetings, more and more positive articles about the ISX and the proxy issue.
My main concern is whether I have to go to the cosulate or somewhere up in London or through a notary. Really not got the time or inclination and hope it can just be done via emails, scanned documents, wire transfers etc.

How long does opening a Warka account take? Very little time at all, the tricky bit is funding your account. I Either sent cash (fedex) or used Dresdner (intermediary bank), there may be new ways which I'm not aware of, in any event when your account is opened Mr I will send you an email outlining ways & means to fund your accounts, the US $ account must have a minimum of $150 and your IQD account 300 000.
Is the best way to buy shares through Mr I? Well, he's the man on the IFRD desk and no matter which department you write to, ALWAYS c.c. to his email.
Aside a proxy not being in ones own name is there any other advantage of buying in your own name? Adster, you missed the boat regarding proxy shares, you'll have to get the paperwork done to have shares in your own name. this is what Mr I wrote to me a few days ago:
Please note that all new current investors are required to purchase stock in their good name submitting their notarized documents which has been certified by the Iraqi Embassy in their country. All clients whom have submitted their certified documentation will have their shares transferred from proxy to their good name. Clients whom have previously purchased stock under the name of our proxy company can continue to do so buying and selling stock accordingly.
Do all Warka account holders have ebanking now?
Can't speak for anyone else, but I certainly do, it currently costs IQD15000 a year, and is well worth it.
As for what to purchase aside banks and possibly reconstruction companies what/where have you invested?
I'm in Al-Mansour Pharmaceuticals, but thinking of selling and getting more shares in one of the banks, I've no positive advice for you on that question.
Thanks in advance, just emailed Mr I to start the ball rolling. The dong will be offloaded and I'll transfer some of my own money on top.

Adster, if you haven't already open a warka account... It took me 4 weeks! Seems to be different for everyone, but you haven't nothing to lose from opening an account and funding it.... I have yet to receive a reply on a pick list I sent 2 weeks ago...

Adster, it's not as difficult as you might suppose. Once you've got your document notarised, you send it to the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce who will act for you and get the Iraq Consulate to sign and set their official seal on it. The Iraq Consulate won't deal with you directly.
-hope that helps. :smoke:

Have you decided against proxy?
If you have. It would be great if you post a detailed report of costs, and what forms you need to fillout etc etc. That would be really helpful to me and many other UK investors who are still in proxy...

Guess the local solicitor can do this then send to above who forward to Iraq Consulate who then send back to you. Sounds like it'll take a couple of months. :wondering:

Dave,
According to above there is no proxy anymore but the ones already bought through proxy can continue that way. Guess a time will come where everyone else will need to transfer to own name?
But of course, I'll update procedure with timeframes as go along.

I'd say be honest with Mr. I and tell him you have been a member of the forum for 4 years and you have finally decided you want to open a Warka account, and you would like to "fast track" an account in order to start trading. These days with Mr. I he generally responds to my emails in 2-3 business days.
IMO start with proxy, Ive been re-assured that Warka's proxy company is solid, and if the ISX changes their rules that Warka will make the process of getting certificates in your good name in quickly and efficiently.
Develop a first-name basis and humanize the partnership, then lines of communincation (and getting things done) will be done more timely.

Let me be clear, opening an account at Warka just involves scanning and emailing, the notarised document is for trading shares in your own name.
You can contact A-B CofC at: 43 Upper Grosvenor St, London, W1K 2NJ Ph: 020 7235 4363 or fax: 020 7245 6688 for details of the timescale, DO BEAR IN MIND that there is a time limit for submitted documents to the ISX once dated, so don't waste time fedexing them to Mr I once you've got them back.
good luck :hi:

Yea, good point, the above does seem a pain in the butt. I used to email him so he does know me.
Would have thought there would be an easier way if Warka change the rules for existing proxy holders.

Hi Adam
If you take 3 forms of I.D.(passport, driving licence and utility bill for proof of address) with a notary form from the IIF site. Phone the nearest Chamber of Commerce and ask who is the nearest one that deals directly with the Arab States. (ours was Luton) That Chamber will notarise all documents and send them off to the Iraqi consulate for you then will send them back to to your address. Myself and 2 friends did this about a year ago. Received all documentation back within 10 days. Cost approx £120 .
Hope this helps anyone on this side of the pond!!

How long does opening a Warka account take? 'Adster, when I opened my account it only took 2 days but that was in Jan 07. All my emails was sent to Mr I first.
Is the best way to buy shares through Mr I?
I send all my stock requests to the ISX email now. 90% of the time my picks are executed within a week. I don't buy and sell a lot.
Aside a proxy not being in ones own name is there any other advantage of buying in your own name? All my stocks are thru proxy. I would not know this.
Do all Warka account holders have ebanking now?I have ebanking. Make sure you send a letter to re-new your ebanking each year or it will expire if you start ebanking.
As for what to purchase aside banks and possibly reconstruction companies what/where have you invested?I have not invested much in stocks. I watch and read a lot of good advice from Cowpoke and Crow and others and made my picks from the good advice from them. I purchased most of my stocks in 07 when you could purchase any amount. Real glad I did or I would not have as many different banks and companies as I have now.
The reason I started with online banking and opened accounts with Warka was with all the talk about printing new currency and the other dreaded unmentionable, I was going to dump all my Dinars in my account at Warka. Now my investment can keep growing and not end when, if the time comes, I exchange my dinars. It turned out to be a good thing as I was able to invest early.:clapping:

How long does opening a Warka account take?
Start to finish this took a few days.
I think that I did everything via emails with attachments to Mr. I and customer service.
I think the best way for you to start this process is to email Mr. I and ask him what the best/fastest way is to open an account. I've noticed lately that they are going through procedure changes. best to get the most up-to-date info, imo.
Is the best way to buy shares through Mr I?
No idea, but I'm sure you will get pm's.
Aside a proxy not being in ones own name is there any other advantage of buying in your own name?
You (and I) HAVE to do non-proxy. One of the procedure changes to Warka is that starting Oct 1st, 2008 anyone who wants to trade stocks with Warka HAS to do so via non-proxy.
Do all Warka account holders have ebanking now?
Yep. It's available for 15,000 dinar a year (I think).
As for what to purchase aside banks and possibly reconstruction companies what/where have you invested?
I have a list from someone that I will be buying as soon as I'm ready. I will pm this person (you know who you are :hi:) for any updates when I am ready.
Thanks in advance, just emailed Mr I to start the ball rolling. The dong will be offloaded and I'll transfer some of my own money on top.

Not necessarily. I was able to get a buddy of mine around the procedural changes about a month ago and into their proxy company in order to trade stocks (he committed to placing a small fortune into several Warka CDs and has to keep the minimum 150 USD per year in his dollar account). However it is certainly recommended to go through the steps to have all paperwork stamped and filed with the ISX. Ill probably work on it when my stocks actually become worth more than I paid or when they reverse-split after lop or move toward GCC.
Mr I is very reasonable if you communicate with him on a regular basis (and keep funneling money into their bank).

I have completed all of the documentation required in order to forward the appropriate docs to Warka to place my stocks in my good name. I have personally spoken to the Arab American Chamber of Commerce twice (very nice people) and expect my processed papers to be returned to me any day now where I will forward them on to the infamous Mr. I where I am sure I will receive a pleasant email from the wonderfull Ms. R and a very informative email from the Warka ISX department.
However, since I am a newbie, I am not sure of the process so I will not add any additional info than what has already been stated in prior posts. (Unless I am asked)

Yes - Karmal just needed scanned copies from me because if you send originals to Warka then you are already registered at ISX and have a trading number which the Brokerage firm uses. So you have one trading number just registered at two firms.
Re Fedex - when I sent it the amount was £27.00. The only difference is loss - you will have to go through the process again because as far as I am aware they need original copies.

You have to attend the Notary because you must sign your documents in his/her presence and they must sign to and they must (or should) check your passport/ID/Drivers licence - whatever you have taken - for authenticity.
After that - you can send your docs to your Local Business Bureau, but they have to see your original passport/ID/Drivers Licence. Personally I would attend. After that, the Local Business Bureau takes care of the rest. As BNZI said, takes about 2 weeks - (mine was about a week  - couple of years ago though).

Royal mail international signed for is a possibility. :wondering:
Thanks to Seaview for getting me through it.
An update to this. Yesterday I received a phone call from the Chamber of Commerce. Apparently they tried to sneak the document through as a letter, but the Arab chamber were having none of it. An extra £95 ish had to be paid to get it through. :surprised:
I couldn't be bothered to argue as I'm eager to get it done and buy more shares. I think Seaview got lucky and didn't have to pay the extra £95?
Myself and Seaview are still the only 2 people who have completed the paperwork via the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Folks,
I am at Al Asad. I asked Mr. I about a military Commanding Officer or Notary... He replied "Lets keep our fingers crossed..."
Did you have all "three signatures" on one sheet to get notarized.
Passport, ID Card, ??
Ideas would be greatly appreciated as obviously I cannot get to a Consulate or Embassy.
My Account is open and funded.
Thanks for any help,
Snuffy
Here's what I did.
I Put my address, Warka address, my passport, my drivers licence, a short note to whom it may concern letter etc, 3 signatures, date and Notary's signature, date, all on one page. (All squeezed it all on - had to downsize to quite small the p/port and DL.) Because they charge by the page.
When it came back it had been stamped accross the front, back and had an extra sheet attached to it which was also stamped by the various offices it goes to.
Then I scanned my passport and drivers licence normal size and when I Fedexed it to warka I put the normal size scans in as well. I also emailed a copy of the lot to them.
When I opened with Brokerage I sent scanned copies of originals and scanned the normal size stuff as well and emailed the lot.
Hope that helps.

I think you're right. I just checked back. Mine were put through as 'Other Documents' and sent as a 'Letter of Identification'.
An extra £95 - man, that stings! :frown:
When I was first purchasing stocks the wise ones advised to purchase at least 80% bank stocks. My favorites are Bank of Baghdad, Commericial, Warka, Dar Es-Salam, Middle East Investment Bank, Credit, and North Banks. I also like Mamoura Real Estate and Iraqi Land Transport and throw in some Baghdad Pepsi for a bit of flavor. I think construction companies may be a good pick for the future, also.
There's a website listed in the ISX section here that strictly discusses stocks. You can find a lot of info there and lots of charts. Very interesting reading from those a lot more knowledgeable than me.
Someone posted a blank spreadsheet to track stocks on which I have found very helpful. I added a second page to mine to forecast the potential with the all time high for each stock just for fun. If you need a copy I will try to post it if I can figure out how to attach it.
I must say that it's wonderfully exciting to be in the stock market. Glad to see everyone getting on board. We sure will have lots of stories to tell.

ebanking costs 15,000 dinars a year, and it took 6 weeks to receive my login details
Same as me. l have to keep feeding my stock in one at a time. After a while in August, that was it.l repeatedly sent orders in like before without any more response. However, l am perfectly well satisfied.

Thanks S/V,
I just find it extremely frustrating to be in Iraq and cannot leave base here to get the stamps and equally frustrating to send documents FEDEX back to the US in the hopes that someone there knows what to do with them...
I'll stop ranting... I'm just 4 months late for Proxy buys.
Thanks for the help,

I didn't say I was going to report you. I haven't ever reported someone for religious stuff. I don't have to, because someone else always does. Just giving you a heads up.

The lord didn't help me make money, I used my brain, witts and skill.
God helps me when times are tough and I thank him for my family my health and my happiness. The rest is down to me.

I just think he is looking seriously at getting into the ISX and doing a very good job of it too. His DD is impressive all the right questions and to all the right people.
With his attitude I think he will do well should he decide to go ahead........and do I ever sound patronising! Sorry Adster, Im just feeling rather smug today with my gains so far!

Adster, if you haven't already open a warka account... It took me 4 weeks! Seems to be different for everyone, but you haven't nothing to lose from opening an account and funding it.... I have yet to receive a reply on a pick list I sent 2 weeks ago...
..................Sounds like you must of made someone REALLY mad!!!
.....I think I got my account info about 4 DAYS after I emailed the request to set up an account:blush:......and that was a few years ago.....when they were REALLY SLOW!!!:giggle:
