View Full Version : ISX. My take on the situation.
I know everyone has noticed that stock prices are drifting lower, today's results, same thing, crap. In the near future we will enter a phase where investors are locked into their positions for a period, this makes many investors nervous. The transition to electronic trading scares some Iraqi traders, they ask will the prices fall?, what if something happens during this period and I can't sell? Also notice most of the banks are off trading raising capital before the transition to electronic trading:yes: Myself I like these locked in periods, either your in or not, very exciting, but for some nerve racking, this is a great transition for the ISX, it will never be the same after this. All I have to say is, let's see what happens when everything is electronic, the old guard is worried, because they lose control, such is life.

Good points.
Also, with all of the paid up offers, coming in at the moment, I wonder if there is a chance that many players may have been caught short and would be selling other tradeable stocks in order to finance some of the paid in deals. Chaka touched on this point the other day.
The implications had already occured to me because, I kind of underestimated how much I would need for these deals myself, particularly as there have been a lot in quick succession. I actually did decide against selling other stock off, but I'm sure many others did not choose this path. This scenario could in itself have contributed to a temporary downward shift and with all you mention as well, negative sentiment quickly manifests itself.
I agree with you though, exciting times are ahead, it will be great to see where we are at by Christmas.

This looks to be a great opportunity for a person like myself just entering the market, I see great deals everywhere. :nerd: The 3+ week delay from June 18th to July 12th allows me go out to "raise capital"
This little investment gets expensive quick buying blocks of 200K
Warka & MEIB are supposed to trade electronically next session right?

RB, there are 10 banks that won't trade from when they shut down on June 12th until August 30th thru Octobet 11th...quite a long idle time.

I am still waiting to see what happens with the revisions to the FIL, before cracking open the champers or putting on my party hat !
Although, ET will provide the means for massive liquidity to pour into the ISX, if the proper protection for the big boys money is not in place, they will remain on the sidelines.
As with most things Iraq, decent info on this subject is pretty hard to find. I don't even know what the issue or basic problem is with regard the revisions to the law in its current form.
Anyone ?

I just got my "we've opened your acct, standby for acct #" letter from Mr I. I hope I have time to fund this before they take the break. How long does it usually take to get $ wired and can you get filled the same day? Are the closing dates posted on here somewhere or would one of you smart investors who got on board years ago mind posting them. Sorry for so many questions but I just found this site last month, and have had dinars for 3 or 4 years (damn shame huh!:hi::sweating::time:

Be noted that all companies that are electronic traded you have to submit your request to Warka ISX on Wednesday to catch sunday trading. Hopefully by the end of July we will only have electronic trading.

Just a thought...could the ISX prices be falling through manipulation...like the wages, whereby they had the wage-cuts recently, as per being in line with a new more valuable currency revaluation, that may be coming soon?..Just thinking out loud, who knows?

NO,your order will NOT be filled the same day.You will be very fortunate if it is filled at all!! I have had orders in from early April that have not been filled.some of the companies are off trading, but some are trading regurlarly-but NOT mine.I am terribly upset at Warka's service, and lack of communication.I realize they are very busy, but this is ridiculous. I recommend anyone opening an account to go with Karmal.I would, but they require a passport which I do not have.I have received more information from Karmal about the ISX,than from Warka-and I don't even have an account with them, just out of courtesy. Warka is a good bank, but they have absolutely grown too big,too fast to give good service.Up until about 6 months ago,the service was excellent. In the future they will be good again, but NOT now.I keep emailing Mr. I,and he keeps telling me they are trying to get my stocks bought, and sold.I have been dealing with Warka for almost 3 years,19 banks, and 43 companies-with over 28 million dinars.I am trying desperately to realign my portfolio before everything goes electronic, but I don't think it is possible. So,in the meantime,I will just take my free shares,dividends,paid-up shares, and try to make the best of a good situation.I apologize for my ranting, but it is very frustrating-especially when I read on the forum where a lot of you are getting fairly good service. If I were paranoid (maybe a little) I would think I am on somebody's s--- list!!!!

And don't forget manual trading will stop on 6/18/09 and all companies will return electronic 7/12/09, so many will be locked in for this period.

Warka's communication is good. They always let me know when they will execute the orders I submit. If they don't fill, I realize that order is dead and I must resubmit a new one...no big deal. If you submit electronic orders by Wednesday, they will make Sundays trade floor...manual submissions take 2 or 3 days notice depending on where the weekend falls.
Also, while all manual trading ends 6/18, not all companies will not trade on 7/12, some will be idle a long tims, the last stock to go electronic is Nov 1st.

Aren't stock shares worth what someone will pay for them . ie I buy a share for 1 penny, the next day it trades for 100.00. I make 99.99

EXACTLY! Stocks are market-driven, economy-driven, and, of course, driven by a company's worth/profits or perceived worth/profits and any one or any combination of these three can cause a stock price to rise or fall.
Iraq's currency, however, is based on what the CBI decides it will be and that number is currently 1170 - it may stay that number forever or it may change up or down tomorrow at their discretion.

Honestly, some people !!
When will they realise that this is a percentage game. The rate of the dinar is just icing on the cake. A stock goes from 1 dinar to 3 dinar in price and you treble your money. It makes no difference if you have $500's worth or $500,000's worth, you TREBLE your money in that scenario.
The dinar staying at what is considered by many on the dinar forum to be "worthless", is totally and utterly besides the point. Any increase is obviously gratefully accepted though.
Anyway, Happy Birthday Sunsetjet. Hope someone bought you some glasses so that you can see the whole picture.
