Today at work an old friend that used to work with me walked in and I got to talk to him a bit. He had been on 2 trips to Iraq working for KBR. During these trips he had bought Dinar and said anyone there in the know was doing the same. He then told me that KBR was not hiring people to send to Iraq anymore. He could get a job and go back because he had worked there for them before, but he said in general KBR was not hiring for Iraq postions anymore. His assumption was that they were getting cheaper laborers, INT's maybe the name he called them. Third world laborers or something like that. There is an article posted here somewhere talking about that.

He probably meant Third Country Nationals or TCN's.

Basically what your friend is saying is that KBR is not hiring 1000s of employees at one time like they were 2 years ago. I just saw 40 new-hires at the Baghdad airport a week ago. Now that all of the camps are built, they are at sustainment mode, and they really don't require the US standard craft employees like they did in the beginning to build it all up. Most are demobing out of disgust and they're not replacing them. Manpower requirements are a lot lower now anyway.
Since KBR is on a cost-plus contract, The TCNs are far cheaper and will provide a decent profit margin to make up for the lower US employee salaries that they can't continue to justify bilking the gov't for.

As far as the dinar, he is correct. Most KBR employees are purchasing the dinar. It's easy to get since the locals come into camp on a daily basis, and KBR employees can get cash advances twice a month. They can even cash personal checks once each week! So, they have an advantage. They just have to make sure they don't try to sneak it through the airport. The Iraqi security will take it when they search you, even if it's in your wallet or ID pouch. So, most people mail it home.

We don't really need to hire any "new" people for Iraq because there are hundreds in Kuwait they are going to be transferring up there in the coming months. I'm about to transfer to Ad Diwaniyah in about a week. They will still hire new people though because there is such a high turnover rate.

all the us companies that have contracts here in the middle east are using TCN's they cant complain there is no labor laws and can be worked to death legally not saying they do but its normal. they get paid anywhere from .60- 1.50 an hour usd so its like a sweat shop.

Considering the fact that most of the other contractors that are here are paying almost double what KBR pays, it's not hard to understand why the recruiters lie like rugs.

Hello, Have Been At Baghdad Now Since May Of 2005, And Did A Stint At Balad In 2004 With Kbr....they Are Hiring Workers Just Like We Are Doing In The Usa, From Other Places Because They Can Pay Them Pennies On The Dollar For What Some Americans Are Willing To Work For...yes They Are Called Tcn's--third Country Nationals. They Work Here Because Getting Paid In Us Dollars For Them Is Having Alot Of Money Once They Get Home(if) And Return To Their Economies. Kbr Has Lost Many Segments Of The Contracts They Once Held, And Many More Will Follow As The Local Vendors Slowly Take Over(kuwait, Saudi,turkey, Pakistan, Etc...)...glad To Be Back In The Forum...

thanks for the kbr job listing...i have proabably come over with the highest-paying company that is not tied to anything involving security. and we are actually doing something that is saving soldiers lives, and are getting updates of the numbers weekly, up to 55 soldiers so far and hopefully, will not have to count any more...looks like our service here will continue for some time...good to hear from you

I have 4 years in the Air Force ( c-130h-3 crew chief / Computer networking, help desk experience. ) Currently employed with Fed Ex as a ramp agent here in San Diego in the morning then work at Software Company 9-5. I have been to the desert while in the military many times and defiantly not afraid of hard work. If anyone has pointers or guidance I would be greatly appreciated and again if this in wrong place I apologize.

Your best bet is to be patient and get a better and higher paying job with ITT. I have been here for 22+ months with KBR. They are a trip. But the money is regular and I have a cushy job. Just telling the truth, habit.

In the absence of patience, go to KBRJOBS.com and they have a listing where they will be hosting job fairs. Your best bet is to talk to one of the recruiters at one of these face to face. No one is here (outside of the military and press, and perhaps a few dr. types) for any other reason than to make a lot of money that they couldn't in the same amount of time back home.

I have known MANY people that have tried to get over here with KBR. You have to rem. that we are 3 years into this and the K.infolks B.rothers and R.elatives thing doesn't even work much anymore. Drop your resume online with them and if they NEED someone in that slot AND your qualifications are better than others, you will get a call.

And for everyone else's information they are still pushing HUNDREDS of people thru Houston each week. Got that from a very good source.
