View Full Version : Are you in the Black?

I was wondering if you are still in the red or are you in the black?
I first started buying shares way back in 2006, and as those who have been in this game for a long time know that most of the shares went down even further after we bought them.
I now own just under 2.5 million shares in 20 companies on the ISX and my percentage increase is 111.55% which means that over the last three years my initial investment has actually gone up by 11.55% so I am actually in the black.
WOW big increase I hear you say, but I also remember a few years ago when my share holding was loitering around 60% of the initial investment!
I am wondering whether this 11.55% increase is due to the free issue shares and the paid up share allocations rather than any increase in the ISX?
I have just worked out the figures and I have made £285.65 profit in three years! If I were to sell them all now I would probably break even after the fees. Has this rollercoaster ride been worth it?

I have been in the ISX for almost four years. I invested when the dinar was 1480 to 1. I invested 10k USD, last year I took 5k USD out. So I do not know how that would be figured, but my portfolio is now worth about 19 million dinars(17k USD). Almost all of this is due to splits, appreciation in the dinar, and some interest. So, on the 5k USD of my original investment that is still in Iraq I would be up over 300%. Not to shabby.

WOW - you are doing far better than I am. Are you going to keep your entire investment in the ISX or do you think that you will take back some more profit? What do you think the long term prospects are for the ISX now that electronic trading is a reality? I am hoping that it will continue to go up so that I can realise a little bit of profit too
In the RED, and various shades of RED at that.
Wont be in the black until something happens and i take it all out.

I am going to let it ride, for at least another 7 - 10 years.

V, your psychological profile will never be the same as before initial speculation but I'm too stubborn to throw in the towel after 5.5 years. I've got 9.7 million shares and my overall gains have come from 'free capital shares' on banks like Warka, Credit Bank, Economy Bank, Commercial, etc. Only time will obviously tell if this speculative venture has been worth it.:smoke:

By today's performance, I get the deep gut feelin that today, starts a strong steady market that will gradually increase the share prices

What caused it, the fact that Modern Sewing pushed the activity on electronic companies to 6! :yelrotflmao:
Non iraqi trading was only 3,550,000 shares!!!

At a glance, every bank share rose, and there was minimal non-iraqi participation (good sign that more iraqis are confident), just a hunch
My ISX shares are up 24% on purchase prices of late 2006.... so yes, black here.

you crack me up! :giggle:
hey, it's nice letting them build up capital. look at all the deals we are getting and putting us into the black for peanuts and then the free shares!
personally, i think the isx is a valid auspice for the rv. right now, the companies are raising capital because it's cheaper than passing out dividends. when we start seeing dividends, then they will most likely be set infrastructure wise which we know will be some time. jmo and observation  thoughts?

Anyone that wants to post how much they got invested is fine, I'll listen (read) they wont impress me, but I'll listen.
It dosen't serve their best interest for others to know, but if they feel they have to flash their wallet, more power to them

uncertainty, and instability...always reek havoc to a countries stock market...
all things considered...splits, free shares...my guess is most ISX ers are + or - 10 %
me i am down @ 6 %...BUT...it should be a lot worse....imagine the NYSE or the european stock market....if they had a national war....it would sink to nothing.....
so ...we are doing good, and when the storm clouds go away...and the sun comes out , financially, in iraq...we will see an upside pop....like no other...IMHO
i have @ 10K USD in 6 banks, and 2 industries...no complaints
