Boeing's airborne laser can now 'defeat' vehicles

Latest video from Boeing showcasing it's Advanced Tactical Laser firing a shot at a vehicle on the ground. The modified C-130 was airborne for the shot and hit almost dead center on the target. During the test, the C-130H aircraft took off from Kirtland Air Force Base, ...

I call BullPoo.

That is a pyrotechnic reaction, not a laser.
FeO/AL Thermite.
Yellow flame, dark brown smoke, and telltale residue.
Anyone that has ever seen this reaction, will
recognize it immediately.

Could be real, the smoke and residue could be caused by the paint and clear coat on the car.
It does look somewhat like some sort of flash powder though, but then, the laser cutters I've seen in action had some sort of gas/air assist at debris removal and were cutting clean steel

I did find this information about this technology, although it refers to missiles, on the Boeing website. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to hit a stationary vehicle from an airplane if they can hit a missile from an airplane:

http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/abl/index.html

and this press release from boeing:

http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2009/q2/090424a_nr.html

and another press release concerning tests already performed:

http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2008/q4/081201a_nr.html

and this concerning an actual test on a missile:

Although I did find many stories on-line concerning the 'truck', I could not find any such test on the Boeing website.

Don't be so quick to call bs. I flew on C-130's for 20 years USAF. They can be adapted to do almost any job that needs to be done. Here is a link talking about the laser.

Yeah, it looks to me to be next to nothing too. However, I did see an interesting story on the news a couple days ago that we have a new classified weapon that can blow up IEDs from an airplane. I loved the fact that the three arses burying it on the roadside were blown to heck!
