Bin Laden Warns of Attacks, Offers Truce

By LEE KEATH, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 18 minutes ago

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Jazeera on Thursday broadcast portions of an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden, saying al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a possible truce to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We do not mind offering you a long-term truce with fair conditions that we adhere to," he said. "We are a nation that God has forbidden to lie and cheat. So both sides can enjoy security and stability under this truce so we can build Iraq and Afghanistan, which have been destroyed in this war. There is no shame in this solution, which prevents the wasting of billions of dollars that have gone to those with influence and merchants of war in America."

Interesting. Thanks.

"The voice on the tape said heightened security in the United States is not the reason there have been no attacks there since the Sept. 11, 2001, suicide hijackings.

Instead, the reason is "because there are operations that need preparations," he said.

"The delay in similar operations happening in America has not been because of failure to break through your security measures. But the operations are happening in Baghdad and you will see them here at home the minute they are through (with preparations), with God's permission," he said."

I dunno RET- but I must say I find it a bit surprising that he (or whoever is pretending to be him) all of a sudden wants to take credit for the rebuilding of Afghanistan & Iraq.
What's up with that? Are they (or he), admitting that things are looking up, and there is nothing they can do to stop it-except for try to take the credit for it?? ;)

Me was a thinkin' the same thing, BB.

I also find the length of time (long) since we last heard from him to be interesting, too. Could he be dead and this is an impersonator?

"There was no immediate confirmation of the tape's authenticity, although the voice resembled that of bin Laden's in previous messages."

This is what they do. Before most attacks, they always seem to atleast give us a warning and then BAM! This should be ringing some alarms and I hope that they take these people serious. But how do you talk with them. I guess we will have to on TV and say ok Mr. Bin Ladin we are agreeing to your truce. If it was not so serious, it would be very jokeable. This is very serious stuff!

You're right- didn't he last speak up right before the last US elections? Now here they are issuing Bonds on Monday- & he's piping up again. Or it could be that because we are wondering about whether or not we got his co-hort in Pakistan or not- he's decided to make an appearace. Certainly makes you wonder about the impersonator thing though- I remember a couple of years ago hearing that he had some serious liver problems & they didn't think he would make it much longer hiding out like he was without proper medical attention. Hey, even Saddam used body doubles when he needed to.

Sure...He wants to rebuild their economy so that he can replenish his "war chest" and start all over again. I say shoot the turkey then we'll talk a truce....and you may quote me on that !

He's being chopped off at the knees and he sees his future.

An Oct. 21, 2001 article:
'The Predator UAV is now being armed with Hellfire anti tank missiles in case of any unexpected opportunities for termination...

US President George W. Bush has explicitly ordered the CIA to eliminate Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda network, and has granted the agency sweeping powers to do so...

Bush has instructed the CIA to attack bin Laden's communications, security apparatus and infrastructure...'

Not going to happen. Bush has always made clear that we dont negotiate with terrorists, especailly Bin Laden. Have to wait till next election if that is what you think we should do.

About half of the talk was on US troops and how they are killing themselves and loosing moral and how the US people dont want our troops in Iraq. I think he knows that the US soldiers are making the difference and he wants to try and undercut them. It is all propoganda, with hardly any facts to back it up except a reference to casualty numbers and a US poll. I have to say that his assessment is flat out wrong. The soldiers are performing brilliantly! You who serve the people of Iraq are helping us win the war on terror! Thank you for your service!

I say no truce. As long has he is still alive the world is still in danger. I say off with his head. It’s people like him and liberals that are screwing up the USA. Will all you liberals please move to France?

I heard that tape this evening, he seeing the end and doing whatever he can to try to hold his network together. He'll just take whatever truce the liberals whine about and we end up giving him then just rebuild his network. BTW I didnt hear if the voice was authenticated or not but it sure sounded alot like Chuckie Shumer.

I gotta tell ya....this makes me think. Knowing how him and his croonies think and the fact that they like "number" games I'm concerned that this June will carry the date of 6/6/06.

I read an article that said that the US terrorist agency (whomever is in charge of listening and deciphering tapes and such) believes it is his voice. I think it was yesterday that I read another article talking about how Bin Ladan is probably dead because of his silence all this time, his previous health issues, the obvious wear and tear from running and hiding all this time, AND the fact that Zawari (sp?) has been in the limelight as far as Al Queda is concerned. When I read this report, I thought to myself if Bin Ladan is still alive, he will make his presence known after such downplaying. I have to admit, after reading that report, I had my doubts as to whether or not he was alive, but I guess it was him on the tapes. In tonights article, it also says that there is no unusual amount of chatter from the usual terrorist groups that they survey indicating anything was up in the US. I'll find a link and post it...

I heard on Fox News this am that OBL commented about we'll feel the affects in our homes, or something along those lines. I cannot find any articles stating that, though.

Silver Spoon, I hate to say this, but I was thinking the 6-6-6 thing yesterday.:o

BIN: QUIT IRAQ AND I'LL ORDER A TRUCE
(If you get out of Iraq)
By Mark Dowdney 20 January 2006

TERROR chief Osama bin Laden issued a chilling warning yesterday about more attacks inside America - but also offered a "truce" if US troops quit Iraq.

On a new tape broadcast in the Middle East, he said: "Operations are under preparation and you will see them in your homes the minute they are complete, God willing."

On the audio tape played on Arab TV station al-Jazeera, he also said there was "no shame" in a "long term truce".

He added: "We have no objections to responding to this with a long term truce based on fair conditions. There is no shame in this solution, which prevents the wasting of billions of dollars that have gone to those with influence and merchants of war in America."

But he warned that security measures could not protect the West, adding: "The proof of that is the explosions you have seen in the capitals of European nations. The delay in similar operations happening in America has not been because of failure to break through your security measures."

The White House said last night that the US "does not negotiate with terrorists".

Thanks!:huge: I've been skimming so many articles this am, I missed it. Wording was different.

"The delay in similar operations happening in America has not been because of failure to break through your security measures. But the operations are happening in Baghdad and you will see them here at home the minute they are through (with preparations), with God's permission," he said. (from another link that was provided)

dead --- and personally i think that the deaths of other supporters in pakistan last week has got them a bit worried and this is an attempt to regain some sort of fear in us that they themselves are having... maybe Zarkawi is dead afterall? hmmm i smell fear on their part

He's dead for me! I find it unbelieveable that with all the voice recordings of him there hasn't been a video to prove that he is alive...

Even after death he is still alive...

Its all propergander so people have a named leader to follow. There is no one with teh same power and hold on people as Osama

Very incorrect....Christianity....it also ranks the most persecuted religion. Make no mistake that you can find followers of the Christian faith in every country even Iraq.

I believe that Al Quada has taken a big hit not only from the western world but among Muslims as well. Remember it was not even a month ago we saw demostrators take to the streets in Iraq and Jordan. Then came the bombing and death of their # 2 figure head. But we should never let our guard down or allow ourselves to think there are not "sleeper cells" among us.

I hope the Government will raise the terror alert level for the SuperBowl....just my .02

Silver Spoon...thank you for posting this chart. It was very informative for me.

You know, it's funny, and this is a little off topic, but I could have sworn that I read in the paper or online that Islam was much bigger. I had thought I read this several times. I wonder now if that wasn't some kind of propaganda to let the Christians know that they are not the biggest anymore.

I feel kind of relieved that Christianity is the largest...not because I want Christians to rule, I just feel a heck of a lot safer with a Christian orientated culture than a Muslim one, even though there are good Muslims.

Apologize if this is too off topic or has offended anyone.
