Attempt on Al-Iraqiya leader Iyad Allawi’s life unmasked in Iraq

An attempt has been laid bare on the life of Iyad Allawi, the leader of the Al-Iraqiya liberal-patriotic bloc, which has won the national elections.
According to the Ash-Sharq al-Awsat Arab-language newspaper, a sharpshooter was to have killed the main candidate for Prime Minister when Allawi would walk from his car to board a plane at the Baghdad airport.
The conspiracy involved top security service and military intelligence brass that intensely dislike the Sunni community-supported Allawi.
The Allawi campaign headquarters was tipped off on the conspiracy by officials of Arab countries’ intelligence services.
