CAIRO (Dow Jones)--Iraq will soon activate an agreement signed with Kurdistan earlier this year to export crude, Iraq's new oil minister Abdul Kareem Luaiby said Friday.
"We have already signed an agreement with Kurdistan ...God willing this agreement will be activated within a few days," Luaiby told reporters in Cairo.
Luaiby's appointment to lead the oil ministry was approved by the Iraq parliament this week, as part of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's new Cabinet. Al-Maliki has pledged to fulfill key demands from the Kurdish region that have long plagued Iraqi politics.
Luaiby said that Iraq is happy with current oil prices and OPEC could meet again before June if market fundamentals change.
