No sign Iraqi parliament to convene soon

BAGHDAD - There was still no sign on Monday that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani was about to call for parliament to convene despite having announced two days ago that he would issue such a decree.
Nearly three months after a December election, Iraq’s divided political leaders are still fighting over the crucial post of prime minister in the new government.
The impasse has delayed the formation of a unity coalition of Shi’ites, Sunnis and Kurds that Washington has promoted in the hope of fostering stability and allowing US troops to begin withdrawing.

Talabani Urged Not to Convene Parliament
By ALEXANDRA ZAVIS, Associated Press Writer March 6, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's president said Monday he would convene the new parliament for the first time next week, beginning a 60-day countdown for lawmakers to elect a new head of state and sign off on a prime minister and Cabinet.

Despite the political squabbling, Talabani had said earlier Monday he would issue a decree calling the new parliament into session on March 12, as required by the constitution, which allows a maximum four weeks between certification of the Dec. 15 vote and the first meeting.

Emerging from a meeting in the Shiite holy city of Najaf with secular Shiite parliamentarian Ahmed Chalabi, al-Sadr said: "All obstacles to forming a national unity government soon will be resolved."

Chalabi, the one-time Pentagon favorite as Iraq's post-Saddam Hussein leader, said al-Jaafari deserved the opportunity to form a government.

"Dr. al-Jaafari should be given a chance. ... It is to the benefit of all parties to keep the (Shiite) Alliance strong and unified," Chalabi said.

Hopefully he will issue the decree and convene parliament as he said he would do.

It remained unclear when parliament might convene, despite the constitutional directive that set Sunday as the deadline. Nor was it clear how the disagreement over al-Jaafari might be settled.

After dark Monday, nine Shias went to Talabani's house for an emergency meeting. Seven of them allegedly refused to vote against Jaffari. They are meeting Tuesday evening and hope to resolve issues........to be continued...

Just wonder who was the first one to screem counterfeit. Does anyone have proof that this does exist? After reading on how the new security features are on the new Dinars its hard for me to believe that they have counterfeit ones already. I been thinking about this for a while and Like I said I do get mine from a company in Chicago that are registered with the BBB. I understand anything is possible but this early in the game has me thinking no way.
