Sulaimaniya, Feb.7 (AKnews)- The spokesman for the Goran (change) Movement said his party will not step back from the call for dissolving the Kurdish parliament and government, stressing it is setting the stage for the campaign.

http://www.aknews.com/images/cms-image-000033642.jpgLast Saturday the major opposition party in the Kurdistan Region, northern Iraq, released a statement, condensing its demands in seven points. The party called the Kurdish government to resign and demanded abolishing parliament to give way for a “transparent” voting.

The call received strong resistance from the major parties in the Region. Public demos also were organized to protest the call. Opposition mounted to its climax in the party affiliated media outlets.

Speaking to AKnews, Mohammed Tofqi Rahim held the major parties in Kurdistan responsible for the tensions following the release of the statement, while he stressed Goran will not withdraw the call and does not take the responsibility for the concerns.

“We are working to enforce the statement,” he said, adding the call has provoked concerns in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the two major parties and allies in Kurdistan.

Goran will not apologize to anyone for releasing the statement, Rahim said, in response to the reports about a tripartite meeting of the opposition group, the PUK and KDP. He rejected the prospect of such a meeting as well.

Another Kurdish opposition party the Kurdistan Islamic Party (KIP) Saturday demanded the major parties and Goran to put an end to “slandering each other” and step forward for peaceful talks. After the statement there spread reports that the parties will calm the tensions in a tripartite meeting.

The Kurdistan Region president, Massoud Barzani, and the Iraqi president, Jalal Talabani, who lead the KDP and PUK respectively, are to meet today to discuss among other issues, the Goran campaign against Kurdish administration and legislative body.
