Iran Threatens U.S. With 'Harm and Pain'
By GEORGE JAHN, Associated Press Writer March 8, 2006
VIENNA, Austria - Iran threatened the United States with "harm and pain" Wednesday for its role in hauling Tehran before the U.N. Security Council over its nuclear program. But the United States and its European allies said Iran's nuclear intransigence left the world no choice but to ask for Security Council action.
The council could impose economic and political sanctions on Iran.
"The United States has the power to cause harm and pain," said a statement delivered by the Iranian delegation. "But the United States is also susceptible to harm and pain. So if that is the path that the U.S. wishes to choose, let the ball roll."
The republic also could cause difficulties in southern Iraq. On Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld accused Tehran of dispatching elements of its Revolutionary Guard to stir trouble inside Iraq.
Iran also attacked "warmongers in Washington" for what it said was an unjust accusation that Tehran's nuclear intentions were mainly for military use. It also suggested America was vulnerable, despite its strength.
"Surely we are not naive about the United States' ... intention to flex muscles," the statement said. "But we also see the bone fractures underneath."
It also threatened broader retaliation, without being specific, saying Iran "will adapt our policy and adjust our approach to conform with the new exigencies."

Ya, and look at Iraq now! Iran is sooooooo stupid, don't they know that the US wants their oil too! And this is the perfect excuse for the USA to take their oil and control of Iran. Hey we might have a monopoly starting. Who's next up, Syria. They will get a beating even if they don't have any oil.

The USA should take control of Saudi Arabia, and set those poor people free. Let's get the head choppers out of control! :lmao: :happy64:

In regard to your last statements, as an American I wish for you and your country peace and happiness. I wish for God to give you the power to choose and do whatever it is you need to do to fulfill your pursuit of happiness. If bringing pain and harm to America is what you need to do in order to find happiness, then I say, Bring it, gas costs to much here.

Iran is entering into a "ring" with the big boys now!. I would step very carefully if I were in there shoes. The U.S. will have to grap another six pack of WhoopA .

"Surely we are not naive about the United States' ... intention to flex muscles," the statement said. "But we also see the bone fractures underneath."
translation: "flex muscles" = G.W. preventing Iran from getting/using nuclear terror
translation: "bone fractures" = liberal 'anti-America' mainstream media
Just a note about the media on this, though. I have it on good authority that some of the most vehement of G.W. haters in the press will back him if he moves on Iran quickly. Apparently even they can see the danger here and can put aside their partisan differences. I was surprised to hear this. Pleased - but surprised. We'll see.

Personally I would not be so gung ho for the U.S. to confront Iran militarily. At least not without the full backing of the Europeans (politically, financially and militarily). All you need to do is look at the demographics and geophaphy of Iran to know that this could turn into a real ugly situation. Iran is three times the size of Iraq, and has well over twice the population.

"By 2004 the Iranian Army had some 350,000 men (200,000 conscripts)."

The U.S. is doing a great job in Iraq. But it's not been easy. And the job is far from over.
I don't believe the U.S. has the privilege any longer of swaggering around like John Wayne. I'm not a tree hugging bleeding heart liberal. But you have to look at the reality of the situation before jumping in. The reprecussions are much too vast. The western world doesn't mind the U.S. doing it's dirty work for them, but that will have to change if we ever expect democracy to reign supreme.

Either Israel or the US has to take out Iran's nuclear facilities. It will happen. It's not a matter of if , it's when. And it will be sooner rather than later. Israel did it in 1980 and they will do it again if the US doesn't do it first. No matter who does it, it will get ugly pretty quickly, especially for Israel. The leader of Iran would love to start something major with Israel to bring the Islamic world together.

I agree with rueben. This could be very ugly as much as I would love to see a trifecta. Iran is very dangerous, because they are the craziest. They brainwash their children into becoming mortors. It would be a very sad situation. If I were to attack, I would hit them hard. Because you don't want these guys to get up.

I do believe that the U.S. is in the Middle East for the long haul. These aren't poor little impoverished third world countries like Korea and Viet Nam were. These Middle Eastern regimes have the financial resources and will power to fight us for a very long time. And they are very well versed in warfare. They've been fighting amongest themselves for centuries. And insurgent warfare is a whole different animal in comparison to wars like WWI and WWII. Vietnam is a perfect example. We won the battles but lost the war, because we failed to win the hearts and minds of the people, including our own. That's why I believe that it's imparitive that the final outcome in Iraq be positive. Otherwise there is no hope for building bridges between the Middle East and the west.

For Muslim Who Says Violence Destroys Islam, Violent Threats
LOS ANGELES, March 10 — Three weeks ago, Dr. Wafa Sultan was a largely unknown Syrian-American psychiatrist living outside Los Angeles, nursing a deep anger and despair about her fellow Muslims.

This was directed at Iran. Iran sees a linkage with their nuclear program (national security interest) and US occupation of Iraq, but the US/Europe/Russia/China leaders do not. Opening diplomatic channels is a step in the right direction, since current talks are stalemated. It would be a great mistake if a conflict started, because our translators couldn't get it right.

LONDON, March 12 (IranMania) - US ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad said that his country did not want permanent military bases in Iraq and that he was willing to talk to Iran about the war-torn Iraq's future, AFP reported.
"We want Iraq to stand on its own feet, we have no goal of establishing permanent bases here," he said in an interview with Iraq's Ash-Sharqiya television, according to a transcript obtained by AFP.
