Lack of self control, lack of respect. What is the matter with PEOPLE?

You know? I always wonder about people who do this sort of thing - like she did. Makes me wonder what is happening at home behind closed doors.

Can her butt.

I like the position she is taking in the statement at the end.(SARCASM) She is in damage control mode and not answering if right or wrong. Slapping any law enforcement officer is wrong! I hope they follow through with charges. It is scenarios like this one that tie the hands of our law enforcement.

POPCORN for me

Yeah... why does she think being in Congress makes her exempt from treating police officers with respect? It's high time that people in her position be forced to follow the same laws.

What a disrespectful woman.

I personally am not a big fan of LEO's, respect is earned not given.....on
the other hand it doesn't give me the right to go slapping cops around
either.
This woman who holds a political office....should be held to a higher standard irreguardless of who she is dealing with for the simple fact
she is a public servant.

Severalyears ago I read a paper stating 75% of the reigning congress had bounced checks, Several were arrested for DUI or DWI, Many had filed bankruptcy and the list went on and on. It made me want to hurl as we live in a do as we say not do as we do society. I also beleive they gave themselves a raise that year of about 4 times the inflation rate. Has anyone been given a raise equal to 4 times the nflation rate? I have not.

"Ms. McKinney is just a victim of being in Congress while black,"

what in the heck does that even MEAN????????????????? nonsensical.

Members of Congress wear identifying lapel pins and routinely are waved into buildings without undergoing security checks. McKinney was not wearing her pin at the time, and the officer apparently did not recognize her, she has said.

"Congresswoman McKinney, in a hurry, was essentially chased and grabbed by the officer," Myart said. "She reacted instinctively in an effort to defend herself."

she is angry that she wasn't recognized, and then her instincts are to slap police officers who stop her when she refuses to stop (as stated in the article)? great instincts.

me, i would thank the officer for being diligent in his duties. but, that's just me...

The department is tasked with protecting the 535 members of Congress and the vast Capitol complex in an atmosphere thick with politics and privilege.

The safety of its members became a sensitive issue after a gunman in 1998 killed two officers outside the office of then-Republican Whip Tom DeLay of Texas. '

I do not envy these officers their task, not one bit!

Dctalk - Colored People

Pardon me, your epidermis is showing
I couldn't help but note your shade of melanin
I tip my hat to the colorful arrangement
Cause I see (the) beauty in the tones of our skin
We gotta come together, and thank the maker of us all
We're colored people, and we live in a tainted place
We're colored people, and they call us the human race
We've got a history so full of mistakes
And we are colored people who depend on a Holy Grace
A piece of canvas is only the beginning
It takes on character with every loving stroke
This thing of beauty is the passion of an artist's heart
By God's design, we are a skin kaleidoscope
We gotta come together, aren't we all human after all?
Ignorance has wronged some races
And vengeance is the Lord's
If we aspire to share this space
Repentance is the cure
Well, just a day in the shoes of a color blind man
Should make it easy for you to see
That these diverse tones do more than cover our bones
As a part of our anatomy

I like this song. With that being said. I don't want to see this thread go downhill. We are made up of all kinds of skin tones. Please be respectful in what you throw out there.

I don't care what the color of her epidermis is. No-one should on both sides. She hit another person. Period. Kinda like a super model hitting a person with a phone.:drunk: Kinda like a parent hitting a child. IT'S WRONG.

I really don't care to see her compared to other women of the same color. She should be compared to other men and women who hold an office. Like panhead posted, she should be held to a higher standard.

To me it isn't a black/white thing, seems pretty weak that she even went to that level.....on the same note Condileeza Rice would never stoop to that level. It's about class...and this woman has none! nuff said!

That's what I'm saying. It has nothing to do with the color of the skin and it shouldn't even be made into an issue. The word "class" is thrown 'out there' - sometimes loosely, too. Let's get to the nuts and bolts of this. It's really an issue of SELF CONTROL ... self control and respect for authority. I'd expect something like out of a hot headed teenager ... not an adult with this sort of public image.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Georgia, faces possible criminal charges for a Wednesday altercation with a Capitol Police officer, one of her lawyers said Friday that the real issues were "sex, race and Ms. McKinney's progressiveness."

Who elects a person like this??? A police officer acted in defense of the Capitol Building and she is mad because she regularly fails to wear the one thing that identifies her as a lawmaker. She knows that she is supposed to wear that pin and she chooses to not wear it yet STILL pitches a fit when someone who does not recognize her ugly face FOLLOWS PROCEDURE!

Of course she played the race card. It either brings sympathy or anger but I wouldn't bank on her getting a return invite to Congress.

Not knowing anything about it my guess is she apologized to the officers and made amends. You know how humans beings are SUPPOSED to do when they are in the wrong. BUt if your black and pull the race card, all respect flys right out the window. Period.

Who elects a person like this???

In answer to your question, unfortunatley the good people of my fair state of Georgia elected her.

In their defense though, she did run a stealth campaign, advertising only to districts comprised primarily of people of color. In the previous election, she was defeated by a landslide, which according to her father, was the fault of the "J-E-W-S".

Unfortunately, racism is alive and well in the US. However, racists come in all colors too. My personal feeling, whether right or wrong, is that the most vehement racists today in the USA, tend to reside in the blue states. Likewise, they tend to preach that some people are ill prepared to succeed simply because of the color of their skin.

I don't agree with the hot headed teenager thing either RET. I believe it falls back to parenting. My kids and I have freinds of many cultures and races. I also feel it is somewhat a breakdown in society for allowing such frivolous disregard to authority and have to say personally it undermines all law enforcements upholding of the law when they have to stop and think of what repercussions there are going to be because the perp has a different skin color. I agree it shows a total lack of class no matter what the color of skin.
