Yehh... yehhh...
I received email today AM regarding opening of accounts. They did it. I requested savings accounts (Dollar and Dinar) to start with. That’s what I got. Turnaround time for me is 2.5 days. YMMV
Kudos to Marilyn. You have one more admirer, me. Thank you.

Was that 2.5 from time you sent info or after the forms were sent with the deposit ??

Hi Bryan, its 2.5 days from the time I sent required documents by email (pdf files: 1. DL, 2. Required authorization, 3. Specimen signature). As I said YMMV. Very brief email stating account numbers and advise in regards to transferring funds.
Tony, No, I did not yet and no mention regarding minimum amount. Definitely don’t want to send small amount ($500-$1000) as fees will eat up initial amount (wire transfer/fedex, exchange fees and so on).
SwansonHomes, thats correct. Its at Warka. Look for Marilyn posts here in this board. You will get all the details. She is great.
As of now, it did not cost me anything. I guess once you start wire transfer, fees will start incur.

So I'm getting ready to do the same. Can you tell me what to send for signature? What is attested? Do they need a witness?
Did they give any indication when we can trade?

Here's what I did. I sent this yesterday and am waiting to hear back.
1) scanned driver license
2) inserted the image into MS Word document
3) typed the following:
I ---------------- authorize Al-Warka Investment Bank to draw from my
Dollar account ( current or saving ) in the above Bank and exchange the
Dollar into Iraqi Dinar according to price fixed by the Central Bank of Iraq
at that day , and then deposit it in my Iraqi Dinar account at the said
bank.
4) I specified that I wanted a Savings Account opened in my name
5) I included my name, address, phone number
6) printed it out
7) signed it
8) scanned it back in
9) attached it in an email and set it on it's way
That's it.

Northof48,
You attest your own signature. As long as you are sending your DL which should show your signature anyway, you should be fine. What I did is sending in 3 different documents as pdf files.
1. Scanning of DL.
2. Authorized letter signed and scanned
3. Specimen signature with name, address and phone number scanned.
Then convert them into pdf files if you have software. If not, insert them into word document. As a precaution print these, look how they are. You are all set.

Thanks. My only access to a scanner is a commercial guy and he will put them in jpeg format. Can I just insert these into a word document? I'm a bit challanged as you can see. Thanks.

Create an email saying you want to open an account at Warka bank. Inser the jpg file and state: The attached file contains your drivers license, authorization letter and signature.
I'd think that would suffice.

Do you recommend opening the accounts with Monty? Obviously, if I deposit 5k USD, I would want the majority of it in Dinar.....say 4k in the Dinar account and 1k in the USD account. Am I tracking here?
Fred
My question to all of you who have opened accounts is this:
How many of you have actually wired money over there so far? How smooth is the process? How did you go about doing it? Please enlighten me!
Once I have these details I will think about sending my personal info over to these people.
Monty
07-23-2004, 08:43 PM
Hi Fred, You can certainly open accounts with me. LOL. Seriously, I did open accounts with them. The rationale is of course first intent to get ready for ISX, but secondly the way I see is I will get 1460 Dinars per dollar, which is much better than any present deals (in fact it's best deal). Just for investment of 4k, you will get 1.2 mil additional Dinars and if you invest 20k, you will get 6.3 mil additional Dinars compared to other deals. These are approximate numbers. Imagine even if you get extra 5 mil for investment of 20k(after expenses) and if it opens up at 100 Dinars to 1 dollar (conservatively speaking) 6 months from now or when ever it opens up internationally, you will make $50k extra.
Joec, No I haven't send money yet. Sent an email with few general questions. After I get response, I will initiate transfer. As you can see, R (Warka bank official) is extremely busy. She is very helpful and answers all questions.
The first person I see on this board turnaround time 1 day, for me its 2.5 days and it appears its little longer now. It might become even longer as days go by. Make sure, if you decide to apply, to send all required documents in one email or Fedex.
Monty :happy64:
Disclaimer: Neither recommending nor against this investment. It is risky at some level like any other investments. Use your judgment.

LOL, Minigirl. You are awesome. I see you everywhere!!
As per accounts, look for any official document. I imagine your employee identification should be fine. Meanwhile ask R, what other official documents are acceptable.
As per DL, you better find it. You definitely don’t want to be stopped without it. They are not going listen for anything.

mid-term investing in the ISX. It should stabilize after a couple of months and the stocks should take off as the result of investment compounded by the > in value of the dinar. Double-edged profit.
If there is a serious political turnaround (going back to fundamentalism) that will take time to develop, grow, and become prominent enough to gain popular support to enabel a take over of the government. I am sure the US will intercede if we are supported by the arab world and the standing government. Popular insurrections take time.......2, 3 years? In the mean time, I will watch my interests closely and pull them if things get questionable.
Has anyone who already has an account at Warkaa received anything other than account numbers yet, like bank routing information (ABA routing #)?
I don't know, maybe I'm chicken, but businesses who use hotmail and yahoo email accounts spook me.
Different subject now- - I went to NBK in Kuwait City this morning and was told I have to have a civil ID number to open an account with them. Does anyone know of a way around that?

I will post the response I recieved . I also e-mailed Warka@hotmail and asked if she would provide the information I had asked from the main branch . I want to see if the information from both of them to match for proceedures and security measures . I hope this isn't a scam .

Just wondering....how long did it take you to hear back from them that they had received your documents? I sent my documents around 9 am their time yesterday. I sent the info on 7/29/04 at 8am EST and received the account numbers on 8/1/04 at 6am EST. So they received it late Thursday night their time and had the account numbers sent late in the work day Monday (their time). So seeings how their weekend is Friday-Saturday it took them about a day and a half work time to get the account numbers to me. Not bad seeings how Miss Rannda is overwhelmed with work. Now I just need to figure out how to wire money to them and a little reassurance it is a safe thing to do. Hope this helps Aunt G! :)

All,
I know I am a day late and a dinar short in posting this precaution, however, I think it is informative for all future individuals requesting a bank account.
If I am not mistaken, Al Warka's fax number was posted somewhere on this forum. I recommend all that are going to open a bank account do the following.
1) Take $20-$50 dollars as applicable with you. (I don't know the rates)
2) Gather necessary documents, i.e. license, signed Warka form and everything else required.
3) Take a trip to Mail Boxes Etc or similar service store (That is the only one I remember while I was in the states...Damn I need to get back home...LOL)
4) Photocopy the items needed and FAX the documents.
I would never email my info for a number of reasons. Identity fraud being second on my list. (You figure it out).
You are providing at a minimum:
1) Your SSN.
2) Your address.
3) And who knows what else.
Once you scan it and put it into a digital format on a computer connected to the Internet. Consider it public knowledge.
I have worked in the industry for a long time. I am aware of the legal ramifications. I am aware of the lawsuits.
The following is a good rule of thumb to live by:
Never post or email anything you wouldn't want posted in the USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, or the New York Times.
I don't care how good your firewall is or how confidential your ISP company policies are, they have the lawyers, you don't.
Never put your info on a computer connected to the internet.
Buy cheap, second computer for your taxes, finances and such. Do not connect it to your LAN just because it is convienient. "Sneakernet" info to your "offline" secondary computer by using floppy, burned CD or USB Storage Device.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), through its forward-deployed Officer in Charge of Construction (OICC) detachment in Iraq, has processed what is believed to be the first electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the Iraqi bank account of an Iraqi construction contractor. The groundbreaking payment was made in October to a contractor building a new dining facility for the Iraqi National Guard.
