Speaker calls Iraqi parliament to convene on Monday
Iraqi National Assembly Speaker Adnan al-Bachachi on Wednesday invited the parliament to convene next Monday citing reasons for optimism that all snags would be settled to form a national unity government.
“I considered it my duty to maintain the credibility of the democratic experience to set a date for convening the parliament and resume its first session,” Bachachi told a press conference in Baghdad.

A top Shiite lawmaker said Thursday that names of selections for top posts in the new Iraqi government must be agreed upon before parliament can meet next week, casting doubt on whether the legislature will convene as announced.
"If we don't agree on the key posts, then why should we go to parliament?" Khudayer al-Khuzai asked Thursday.
Al-Khuzai said Shiite politicians were asking for representatives of each political bloc to meet Sunday to discuss names for the key positions, which include the president, the parliament speaker and deputies.
If names can be agreed upon Sunday, then Shiite leaders will attend the Monday meeting, he said.

BAGHDAD, April 13 (Reuters) - Iraq's Shi'ite Alliance will attend Monday's session of parliament even if no agreement is reached before then on top posts in the new government, Shi'ite legislators and sources said on Thursday.
In a move that raises the chance that political paralysis may end, Shi'ite legislators said they have dropped a demand that a parliament speaker, the prime minister and the president are agreed on by all parties before the bloc goes to parliament.
"The Alliance has decided unanimously to take part in Monday's parliament session," Ridda Jawad Al-Takki, a senior member in the Alliance told Reuters.
In a bid to break the impasse by Monday, Takki said Alliance officials will hold "extensive meetings" with Sunni and Kurdish blocs to discuss the premiership and other key nominations.
The acting speaker of parliament announced on Wednesday that he would convene the legislature on Monday, and some politicians have suggested the 275-seat parliament should make a final decision on Jaafari's fate if the Alliance fails to do so.
