Definition of New Turkish Lira

I think you have to buy old and wait to ex for the new ... I personally just looked in a phone book under foreign currency exchange ... called on a sunday and what a surprise ... open 7 days a week like 9-9 ... put me on hold ... a few times, had to make arrangements to ship it, and at what price ... I feel like I got sort of ripped off this way ... If I had an Iraqi bank account I am sure I could have gotten much better ... hmmm ... Turkey Iraq oil pipeline ... USD value high TL at low ... stable gov'ts ... just a powerhouse waiting to explode ... imho ....

but there is always Damascus

The New Turkish Lira -- or YTL, as it is called here -- will circulate from January 1, 2005, wiping out six zeroes from the current money, which has been a source of national shame for many Turks as a symbol of economic failure.

The biggest banknote now circulating -- the 20 million lira (about 13 dollars) bill -- is the biggest banknote in the world.

Monthly wages are measured in billions, while the budget, for instance, isq calculated in quadrillions.
