History of devalued currency?

I'm curious, has anyone ever looked up track records of purchasing devalued currency historically?
example that come to mind: Germany & Japan after world war II

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand that was handled so quickly(reissue) no one had time to profit from that?
