BAGHDAD, Iraq - Under U.S. pressure, Iraqi leaders decided Wednesday to convene parliament in a bid to jump-start formation of a new unity government, stalled for months over the choice of a prime minister.

But Shiite officials raised doubts whether the session — already postponed once this week — would take place Thursday as planned. They said the seven-faction Shiite alliance would meet Thursday morning and decide whether to attend the afternoon session.

The Bush administration is anxious to get a broad-based government seated, hoping it will help undermine support for the insurgency as well as calm sectarian strife that has bloodied Iraq in recent months.

My feeling: Iran has a major role in the suspension of the formation of the democratic government. Major role! Recent history. (past 40 yrs) has shown that political attrition is the key to success in conquering nations. North Viet Nam did it. Iran sees the MSM reports on the deterioration of support for the Iraqi interim governments ability to come to a consensus. It is showing that Iraqi "leaders" are still in a tribal mode, not a national role, and are exploiting the situation.
I believe that the threat of the coalition pulling down troops and leaving is not a viable threat at this point as Iran would love that. And, some in parlament will have acheived their goal of running amok and unchallenged in the country. We should press the participants get off the pot a.s.a.p. harder. Money talks.
3-6 months more for a government to be sorted out. my opine.

How shall we celebrate the forming of the new government?

So let me see if I have this right. They're going to have a meeting in the morning to decide if they're going to have a meeting in the afternoon. Sounds so much like my company...and nothing ever gets done.
