This is the best type of news at this point. Slowly but surely, this will get a snowball type effect going. I just wish all the countries would just agree already without the dillydallying of a song and dance formal meeting with Baker. Hopefully, with any luck, the issue will be almost wrapped up by the end of the year.

It's all part of that politics game. They first say no and then wait for someone to come to them so they can wring out consessions from them. It drives a person to drink! :drunk:

That is a great article...The fact that one of the country's largest creditors is agreeing to cut debt is the beginning of the snowball effect that was already mentioned here. It's a matter of time guys

Now all we have to do is to get Jacques Chirac to go below 50% on France's debt forgiveness. If he gives in, so will everyone else. Sadly, I'm not going to hold my breath for that to happen.

I thought I read that good 'ol Jacques was caving in?

Last I heard he was willing to go no further than 50%. The US wanted 95-100%. If anyone else knows differently, you'll make my day!

i firmly believe that "ol' jacques" ain't going to commit to debt reduction and/or elimination until after the us election! ... after that time he will pursue one of two policies:

--reward a kerry win with virtually complete cooperation vis-a-vis iraq (in hopes of a lucrative quid-pro-quo) or;

--participate grudgingly, but nevertheless cooperatively, in rebuilding iraq, having been resigned to the prospect of another 4 year bush-cheney term!

i believe the animus is that deep between chirac and bush and that it could resort to such a petty calculus ... hope i'm wrong, but i fear not ...
