U.S.-Iraqi chamber of commerce and industry to organize investment forum in Amman
/6/
Amman, July 12 (Petra) The U.S.- Iraqi Chamber of Commerce and Industry intend to organize an Iraqi investment forum in Amman next month, Chairman of the chamber Fares al-Mesleh disclosed Wednesday.
He said the forum aimed to explain Iraq's future investment policy including the new market mechanism that will be adopted by the Iraqi government in light of the new investment law approved recently by the Iraqi parliament.
He added contacts were underway to ensure the largest participation of regional and world business community. Mesleh, who didn't give the exact date of the forum said the Iraqi government intends to issue a call to the world community to back economic transformation in the country that will further strengthened through updated laws and legislation.
The forum, he said, was especially important as it would offer a good opportunity to put forward Iraq's basic economic needs and give a first hand look to participants on investment opportunities and economic activities in the country. The forum will be held at this time as part of the chamber's plan to explain the advantages of Iraq Reconstruction Exhibition 2006, that will be organized by the chamber in Sulaymaniah in northern Iraq in mid of next October, Mesleh said.
He added Jordan was chosen as venue for the forum because of it favorable open economic policy drafted by His Majesty King Abdullah and encouraged Arab and foreign investors to come to Jordan and benefit from its inviting investment climate. The Iraqis are willing to benefit from Jordan's leading economic experiment to help revive their weary economy, Mesleh said.
Jordan and Iraq agreed last month to swap Jordan's US$1.3 billion on Iraq with contracts and projects equaling the amount of debts. The projects can be carried out in the frame of Iraq's reconstruction plans.

it was already voted on. thats what " new investment law approved recently by the Iraqi parliament" means. you ever heard of misinformation to throw speculation off? the portal iraq story is talking about when he went to saudi et al. that was last week? and his quote was "probably voted on by parliament by end of aug." well, probably was sooner, lol. besides, portal iraq is a dinar sales site. :drunk:

What cars ?
Have you found any official announcement that this law has been passed? Parliament procedures usually are open to the public; do you think that they could have managed to pass it secretly?

Al-Maliki said that the government plans to put together an investment law, pointing out that the Ministerial Council is to address the matter in its meeting tomorrow before presenting it to the Parliament.
He added that an international conference is to be held in September to address Iraqi debts and the possibilities of aiding Iraq in re-constructing its infra-structure and continue its development projects.
Al-Maliki pointed out that agreements have been made with world organizations to be lenient, cooperative, and considerate of the current political and security situation in Iraq.
I'll say it again... "agreements have been made with world organizations" to be "lenient, cooperative and considerate"
Unusual things MAY yet happen...

BW I read the Kurdistan law is open to foreign investors completely. There is no 49/51 split on the holdings. It will be interesting to see fi the rest of Iraq followed suit or if Joe investor will be investing in the north and shunning the rest of Iraq to say the least.

have you seen articles come out early about something going to happen at a certain time then the timeline obviously gets changed because it happens before they originally announced???
the article that said aug was the day BEFOFE the one that came out about it being passed. the article i posted is from the jordanian govt. news site. considering that is where they were just at doing business i would say thats the most recent rendition.
man i cant believe i have to argue a positive news story at this forum!!!

You don't have to argue it with me Shotgun. This is great news. Your attitude is brilliant, you haven't wavered one ounce from your positive outlook and it's great for the rest of us. Now I'd love to see some points raised about what this means and why or why not it will affect the dinar value and when and so on. Links are a bonus but not necessary, I'm interested in opinions as well. Things are moving fast and furious and this is the only place I want to be right now but time to get back to work so.....thanks everybody!!! This is fun. :huge:

Duck2000- My only concern with this being possible is the amount of dinar in circulation. Do you have any insight of this being possible with 9 trillion + dinars in circulation? My thinking is .05 to .12, but $1.12? :rolleye03

As for the amount in circulation , there is nothing stopping them from pulling notes .A guy at the CBI can press a few keys and poof trillions of dinar gone.10 guys in the vault with a shedder and poof trillions of dinar gone.I dont think the amount of dinar out there matters as much as Pscho germ and the rest of the guys think, simply because its so easy to get rid of it. From my father to me to my son, " I don't want to hear how it can't be done, I want to hear how it can be done." He use to tell me if he wanted an excuse, he could go to any bar and find one sitting on a corner bar stool spewing why things can't be done. We sat down with our 14 yo son and we told him what we invested for him. I explained what we wanted him to do is not think about what he can buy, but how he can make his .5 mil dinars grow. We are tyring to teach to make it happen and don't whine about it if it doesn't.
