Iraq scraps census plan

Iraq has scrapped plans for a population census before elections due to take place in January, senior officials said.

They said the government would simply ask voters to produce food ration cards to enable them to cast a ballot.

Previously Iraq's interim government had said it would conduct a nationwide census on October 12 as a basis for electoral rolls.-Reuters

I was cancelled as a full population census... not that they didn't want to do this... but just ran out of time due to the violence . I'm sure the ration card system should work due to the fact you have to eat and they are not duplicated ..
This should give a number of citzens that are in the country now and will give a pretty good idea of the number of people that voted .. They know how many food ration certificates that have been issued ..
I guess they felt that this would be valid enough to hold the 1st ever free elections :happy64:
And the true census will come later when they can get a better handle on the situation ...
