I am a criminal investigator specializing in identy theft, and internet crimes.
I would like you to know there are thousands of scams that use hotmail, yahoo, etc... as e-mail contacts.. they are totaly anonymous and tons of frauds are committed using theses anonymous free e-mail accounts.
has any one proved positive who they are and "officaly"
please make me feel more at ease.

I guess until someone walks into Warka bank and snaps a picture of the bank and the person together .. then maybe that would be enough ???

Identy theft is a problem ...

How would you know if you are a victim ???

Is ther a way to find out if identy has been stolen ??

Hopefully that will happen soon. As far as the Hotmail thing, it was already discussed in a similiar thread.... http://www.investorsiraq.com/showthread.php?t=125 it's about the 8th post down. Hope this helps.

Your concern is understandable. Yes, we obtained the Al Warka hotmail address quite a while ago from the CPA and checked it out. It has also appeared numerous times since then in various articles about the bank. It was set up to allow American Investors to communicate with their International Representatives in Bagdad. In other words, they can speak English. We've also called by phone but very few employees speak English so we all communicate through one translator by email.

There's another address available on the website also;

It is also worth noting, overseas businesses, by and far, utilize the likes of hotmail, yahoo, lycos, excite and other webmail forums for business.

Web hosting, as we've come to use in the states, is not as common for the average business overseas, especially in regions like Italy, Middle East, and Central Asia...

The initial concern over Warka and hotmail was justified... I personally called and spoke with the bank over 2 months ago, and confirmed at that time the correct email address was the hotmail account. They do have a website, but it is not a hosted server like we are used to, so they do not have an exchange server or mail server setting with it, thus the reason they do not use the warka email account... The person who checks the Warka website address does not speak english, and the hotmail account is checked by someone who actually understands english...

Bottom line, these webmails accounts are not uncommon for an foreign business, which predominantly does business in the local country as opposed to abroad...
