http://www.shafaaq.com/en/images/2013/3/almahmud.jpgShafaq News / The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday, appointing the Head of the Federal appeal Court, Judge Hassan Ibrahim Humairi on the presidency of the Supreme Judicial Council, instead of Medhat al-Mahmoud.
According to a statement issued by a judicial authority reported for "Shafaq News", that “under the new law voted by the parliament earlier, the head of the Federal appeal Court, the nominee Judge Hassan Ibrahim Humairi will assume the presidency of the Supreme Judicial Council.
He added that the law of the Supreme Judicial Council No. (112) for 2012 was published in al-Iraqya Waqayeh newspaper after the approval of the Presidency of the Republic.
The Iraqi parliament voted in its first session of the second legislative term held in 15/12/2012 on the law of the Supreme Judicial Council.

The military governor of Iraq, Paul Bremer has appointed Medhat al-Mahmoud as a supervisor on the Ministry of Justice in June 2003, then appointed him as the deputy president of the appeal Court then as the head of the Federal appeal Court, in March 2005 he was appointed as the head of the Federal High Court and according to the rule of law, became the head of the Supreme Judicial Council.
The independent MP, Sabah al-Saadi strongly criticizes the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Medhat al-Mahmoud and says that he is "Baathist and Saddamist."
Al-Maliki’s opponents accuse strongly the judicial institution and specifically its President, Medhat al-Mahmoud, as they think that he is a malleable tool by the executive branch.
