I am very surprized that latley the last few weeks the gas has acutally gone down by nearly .10, with all the Hezbollah/Isralie conflict and the Iran/syria BS you would think that the OPEC would be having a field day jacking up the price of gas. Who is keeping things under rap do you supose? I wonder if its my friend GW?? I think he deserves at least a pat on the back don't you think? :rolleye03

He deserves a lot of pats. He has a tough job.
I wish he would get those interest rates up a little though.

Our prices have actually gone up about .10.Then after about 4 days came back down about .03. Which means they're up about .07 for yesterday (who knows what today's price will be)

Does anyone here think we will ever see gas prices back to under 2 dollars again. I know I don't.

Doubtful. As long as people are willing to pay $3, why would THEY willingly bring the price back down under $2. I know I wouldn't if I was in their shoes. The only way THEY would willingly bring it back down is if there was "competition" in the gasoline arena who would bring it in at a lower cost. Then it would become a pricing war thus resulting in lower prices (a la Wal-Mart).

I saw $2.499 this morning, and heard a news blip on the radio about falling prices, expecting gas to fall to $2.00/US gallon by Thanksgiving. Now that's a rumor I look forward to.

I heard the same news...and I see the downward trend of gas prices going.
I am here in San Francisco...not to long ago we were paying from $3.45 -$3.63 for premium gas...just yesterday I paid $3.15 for premium. Big difference for us folks here in Cali. We just may see the $2.00 mark by years end after all as forecasted by the local news here.

What happens in November? I can't remember, maybe someone else will.
Don't be surprised to see gas prices climb steadily higher after January.

Same here vipor, was up at 290 and West Rd, Huffmiester arewa this morning, most major gas is in that range,$2.46-$2.55.Wholesale price of gas is around $2.10 so the profit percentage is still higher than the normal 10 to 15%.There is no shortage of gas, price jacked up due to speculation, however that works.

Gas prices are down nationally overall because of a huge surplus of gasoline. There really hasn't been much in the way of shortages, but news has a way of pushing up prices, whether it's attacks on an Iraqi pipeline, possible sanctions against Iran, rebel attacks on Nigerian production, or fighting in Lebanon between two non-oil producers.
When tensions are high, oil goes up as speculators pour into the futures markets. Strangely, many state pension funds are now heavily invested in oil and gas as speculators, e.g. California. Gas was up as high as $2.20/gallon wholesale (before retail markups or federal/state gas taxes). With a cease fire in Lebanon, an indirect admission by Nasrallah that Hezbollah really lost, storms that came nowhere near US Gulf oil production, and the end of the summer driving season, supply and demand came back into focus.
The reality is that there's plenty of oil and gas on the market at the moment. That's why Saudi promises of more oil don't really affect prices since prices are mostly news-driven.
Gasoline has fallen to about $1.70/gallon wholesale so fairly soon we should see another 30 cents or more drop in gasoline soon barring any increased tension over Iran.

I have heard of companies that let you purchase in advance and lock in at that price. Then you fill up as others pay more.
I cant remember their name but, There is one that has stations near Minneapolis,Mn.
Would be a good time to do it! :shhh:

$2.97 gal here in the SF Valley part of Loz Angelez . . .the first time I have seen a 2 as the first didgit in many months . . .
I hate CA . . .we have a different formulation for gas than any other state. We are always more than the rest of the country. Oh yea . . .gas prices down until the change to the "winter formulation" in a couple months.
I'll take it.

I saw gas prices of $2.13 last night in Iowa. Premium was 2.40 something

Premium is still a little ove 3 bucks in San Diego. I hate that. But it is going down, the only question is for how much longer and how low will it go. Hopefully I won't care that much come tomorrow.

You can tell its getting close to election time, the bottom is falling out of the gas prices, do you think that is a coincidence? :D
Mr.Dinar$
09-16-2006, 10:27 AM
I figure after the elections they will go up once again. I do use premium because I rather burn cleaner and its better for my car. That’s the price you pay for having a V8. I just can't go back to a v4 or v6, I love that horse power. Rule of thumb no replacement for displacement.

The lowest I've seen here is $2.55, but here on the west coast we're still victimized by high taxes, environmental regulations, and the partial shutdown of Prudhoe Bay. Predictions are that prices could go down another 25 cents or so.
Look at the futures market for signs that prices may continue downwards or upwards. OPEC wants to hold the line at $60 and may cut production but in the absence of any immediate threat to the oil supplies I expect prices to continue dropping.
