Just got off the phone with my Mom. She told me that she stopped into HSBC Bank today and asked one of the Tellers if they would be exchanging the Iraqi Dinar anytime soon. The woman didn't even blink an eye, went and grabbed her currency book and said yes they do exchange it but she doesn't know the rate off hand because the rate changes weekly and that she would need to call to get it when she is ready to exchange. She said that there were pictures of bills in the book, and didn't know what they were. She didn't get a very good look at them though. The only bill my Mom has ever seen is the 25,000 note and checking for details like that is something that doesn't exactly cross her mind. So right now I don't have anymore details than what she just told me. The banks are closed at this hour so i can't really answer any questions until i stop in myself to find out more. We are in NY and I don't remember seeing anyone post anything like this about HSBC so I thought I would share.

Thanks for the info BB, another small step in the right direction. It only makes sense that HSBC would begin to do this because they own part of Dar Al-Salaam Bank.

I've heard that from DrDinar a few weeks ago or so. By his word he almost got sued for posting that info on his website. Something about copyright infringement. He must have been right. HSBC is mostly in the NE, SE(South Florida) and out West.

Here is an update on HSBC - my Mom went back to the bank again today and spoke with the branch VP about her account. While she was there she asked again about the Dinar. The VP said they do now sell Dinar. You need to purchase a minimum of $25.00 worth, and if you place an order, you can pick it up in the next day. She didn't ask about rate as she is not buying any more, but just was interested in if they were still trading them in. This is in upstate NY. Not sure if anyone one else has had any other info re: HSBC in their area dealing with dinar or not, but, this is the first I've heard of them SELLING.

I am an HSBC customer in NEW YORK, my branch says no sale of Dinar, Dong, not even Roubles! I just got a BOA card now so I can visit the bank across the street and see what they have, getting tired of ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping fees and just waiting for the mailman. If lucky, I'll just burn a little more gas.

Goober- My Mom only knows this because she spoke with the branch manager. If you talk to a teller they probably will say they don't know anything. Ask to speak to the branch manager and tell them that you know someone who was told that they could buy them from another upstate branch and maybe they'll check into it for you. Good Luck!

The BIG question? Will HSBC, since they have banks or branches in Baghdad, allow us to literally deposit our physical IQD into a a IQD savings account with their bank here in the States. Can we have a IQD bank account with HSBC? Has anybody posed this question to HSBC.
Please advise

To Adster: HSBC was one of the first foreign banks to get a license to operate by the coalition in Baghdad, do you know if any policies have changed to allow us to have IQD bank savings accounts in our own respective countries?
If that was the case I would make a fast trip to my nearest HSBC branch and deposit all my DINARs. I have had a HSBC account for 2 years waiting for this very type of policy to ocurr. Just wondering if you know anything about it.

I can tell you the HSBC branches i've recently been to in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore do not deal in NID and they told me they do not know when they will.

The answer is most likely no. Well what they will do is exchange it into dollars then deposit it into your account... if they are buying dinar.

Not many banks offer multicurrency accounts either and being in the U.S. there is not much need to.

I live in michigan and got online to set up an HSBC online account and when I was almost finished completing the application I read in the agreement that I can not do any branch transactions that it is only an online service. I have no HSBC branch in my area so does this mean I would have to go to Florida (yeah right:no: ) to open an account to be able to exchange my dinar?

Why in the world would you set up an online account with a bank that doesn't do business locally?

I was referring to a US bank, not overseas. There has to be a point where you actually have to visit the local branch from time to time, I have an online account at HSBC because I have direct deposit of my pay, I still have to physically deposit my wifes' paycheck, debit cards take care of the withdrawls.

Strangely I had a friend speak to me today about dinar. She called her sister who works for HSBC in uk. She was told that the bank cannot get any dinar for her as they were unsure what was going to happen and they could be thinking about making a whole new currency.

Has anyone else heard this. I begged my friend to call her sister again for more details. Please please dont blast me for rumouring. I was not going to mention it at all but with this thread I thought it was worth a mention. My friend is sceptical about buying,
