View Full Version : Iraq will be safe, sound and secure after ...
Hi all
I sat down and read the latest quartely report from the UN Sec General's office.
You can read it here. (from 1 Sept 06) (http://www.un.org/Docs/journal/asp/ws.asp?m=s/2006/706)
Just click on the language of your choice to access the PDF.
It makes for drepressing reading, lots of voilence, kidnappings, human rights abuses, etc. Seems amazing to me that economic activity and reforms are happening at all.
Anyway, to make real money on this investment we need stability in Iraq. Instutional investors love stability, hate uncertanity and control hundreds of millions.
So when do you think Iraq will be safe, sound and secure-and why do you think then?

If you had of added "kicked insurgency butt"....I would have voted too.
Thanks to all 29 people who voted on this. Its interesting that most are picking that the security situation will be sorted out within 3 years. This was my pick as well - its hard to imagine the situation continuing past 2010, by then I'm fairly sure that Iraq will have ripped itself apart or will have internal security under control.

I still believe that we will see significant improvement in both Iraq and Afghanistan before the end of the year. The security situation is all over the news. Everyone knows that the US woudl be doing better in Iraq if it weren't for the omnipresent "security situation." With an election coming up Bush knows this too. My bet is he's already told the Pentagon to pull out all the stops and get this reigned in by election time. Easier said than done, but I suspect the Pentagon is going to be a lot freer with supplies, tactics, and missions between now and November.

If it goes on to 2010 there wont be any people left in Iraq. over 6000 civilians killed in the last couple of months.

Does anyone remember when saddam stated that he would be returned to power? I laughed at the time.
U.N. expert says torture in Iraq maybe worse now than under Saddam - iht, news,UN Iraq Torture - News & Features - International Herald Tribune (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/09/21/news/UN_GEN_UN_Iraq_Torture.php)
I am hoping that his comment is still outlandishly far-fetched, but I just can't garner any trust for the UN, for the world, for the mid-east, for humanity. Not today, anyway.
I just wonder what direction this is all going to go in. I am hoping that they will reval the dinar and get on with their lives, but if it doesn't happen soon I fear that it won't happen for them at all.

I don't remember if this was posted elsewhere, but since the subject is security I thought that I would post the link here. There are several very encouraging statements made in this Press Release.

As requested by the UN Security Council in Resolutions 1546 and 1637, I am pleased to report to the Security Council on behalf of the 29 countries making up the Multinational Forces-Iraq (MNF-I), on the Force's progress towards fulfilling its mandate.

I wonder while the country of Iraq works towards its security consideration should be made to disarm all Iraq’s. My personal feeling is there should be only one lead security of the country which should be lead by the Iraqi government. Business owners would be my only thought of civilians having legal rights to bare arms. My opinion also would be that only land and home owners be allowed to keep one fire arm within there premises. This change I think could only occur with civilian comfort if the country truly grasps a control of the violence. Just take the tool of destruction out of the people’s hands so if worst comes to worst if there is personal disagreement let them fight with three hands.
The killing of fellow Iraqi’s should stop. Try…. I also believe Iraq should not be divided or split into regions it does not make sense because eventually the separation will cause future differences of the people. Iraqis must learn to see each other as brothers and sisters and make their country great for foreigners to see the determination of man so it may go into history books.
I know Iraq can do it but how will it all begin? Take the guns out people’s hands….

...It seems the only kind of government these radicals seem to understand is one that rules by FEAR! They may very well have been better off under Saddam! What the _ _ _ _!

That is what we are trying to do with the bad guys now. If you take all the guns from the good folks, do you think the bad guys would turn theirs in also. I highly doubt it. Look how it is here in the US. The states with the highest crime rates are the ones with the toughest gun laws and do not support concealed carry! If you take the guns from the honest folks, they have no way to protect themselves and familys. Also it has been proven in court that the police do not have protect anybody. They are to solve crimes and get the people that committed them after the fact.

Ronbo, I understand what you are saying with protecting yourself but from what I am seeing in the news they are using BIG GUNS. It will take sometime for security to get well set in place within the country of Iraq. I just would love for the citizens to understand that killing each other is not the answer to future, PEACE.
Does anyone know how many Americans die each day by violent crime? I know I raq is no way the size of US but I am sure US has more than the 100 person diening a day due to a violent attack on them. But then you consider population and size.
These are my first postings on this blog and think it is a good forum to discuss issues such as these surrounding Iraq. Keep it up!!!

Iraqis are not the only ones responsible for the current violence and killing and I believe at this point in time settling it with a fist fight is out.

And I understand the point you were making. But if all the guns were taken in, they would just be replaced with knives, swords, or anything else they could find.
