DETROIT (AP) -- Rest can be overrated.
The St. Louis Cardinals (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/stl/) managed just fine in Game 1 of the World Series without much.

And maybe those hard-throwing Detroit Tigers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/det/), who had a week off, aren't so tough after all.

Rookie Anthony Reyes (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7518/) pitched brilliantly into the ninth inning, Albert Pujols (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6619/) made Detroit pay for pitching to him, and Scott Rolen (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5668/) also homered to help St. Louis cruise past the ragged Tigers 7-2 in the World Series opener Saturday night.

DETROIT (AP) -- Now you see it. Now you don't.
Whatever was on Kenny Rogers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/3974/)' hand, even after he washed it off, the St. Louis Cardinals (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/stl/) barely hit him.

Virtually untouchable this October, Rogers smothered the Cardinals on two hits over eight shutout innings, leading the Detroit Tigers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/det/) to a 3-1 victory on a chilly Sunday night that tied the World Series at one game apiece.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- No smudges, no scuffs, just a cramp in his pitching hand -- and it wasn't about to stain Chris Carpenter (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5771/)'s sensational World Series outing.

A brief spasm caused a commotion on the mound, but the Cardinals' ace was more than OK, throwing the Detroit Tigers (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/det/) a curve and leading St. Louis to a 5-0 victory Tuesday night for a 2-1 edge.

St Louis is on a roll and is playing good ball. Suppan is overperforming, but sometimes you need that kind of player to make the difference. Detroit can turn it on it a minute so this series still has some mileage in my book.

I'm rooting for a Game 7 which is always the best for any series.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Almost every ball David Eckstein (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6688/) hit was trouble for the Tigers.

Helped by a soggy field, St. Louis' scrappy shortstop delivered two key doubles that gave the Cardinals a firm grip on a World Series that's quickly slipping away from Detroit.

Eckstein's tiebreaking double to left field glanced off the glove of a diving Craig Monroe (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6773/) in the eighth inning, and the Cardinals capitalized on Detroit's sloppy defense for a 5-4 victory Thursday night in Game 4.

Congrats David Eckstein... the most pathetic World Series MVP in history. Not only are you barely an average shortstop, but you managed to win the MVP award on some of the most minimal talent that MLB has ever seen. Not only did were you 6-22 ( a measly .272), but 2 (or 3) out of your 6 hits should have been outs. Remember those 2 hits in game 4??? The first was a hit because Granderson slipped on the turf. The second was a hit because Monroe took 3 steps in before he saw the ball (TERRIBLE PLAY!!) and missed your ball by an inch. Your thrid B.S. hit was in game 5 when Inge made a great diving play but threw the ball to the right field wall.

You are barely an average shortstop!! Your arm is terrible and you have barely survived the MLB. For a guy that is 5.7" 170 lbs, you have made more of himself than most.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Favored by few, the St. Louis Cardinals (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/teams/stl/) used an unlikely cast of characters to win their first World Series in nearly a quarter century.

Jeff Weaver (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6200/) dominated, David Eckstein (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6688/) drove in two runs on balls that didn't leave the infield and the Cards took advantage of another wild throw by a Tigers pitcher to beat Detroit 4-2 on Friday night and won the Series in five games.

Jeeze. I'd hate to see how you'd talk to someone you know that you didn't care for his/her performance. Two thumbs down on this post. Course, that's the "luxury" of being on the other side of the puter ... you can post non-sense without a whole ball team gang piling ya.

Obviously those making the decision saw it differently. :drunk: What "shoulda" been and what happened ... well, two different things, Frosty. Why don't you address the ones that made the silly, high school errors, huh?

Is it because of the vet? He got the vet and you want one. That's it, isn't it? :lmao: j/k
