Can anyone explain to me why the serial numbers on the 25K dinar are the same? I have many dinar which have the same serial numbers on 4 or 5 notes. Can someone explain to me why this is?

You maybe noticing a symbol that looks like a backwards "7" on the duplicates.
There are two symbols that look very similar. If you take a magnifying glass, the one is a pretty clear backwards 7, the other appers to be a 7 but it has flare at the top.At least that's what I noticed I thought I duplicate numbers.

-edited for spelling

I would check all the symbols very carefully. The "7" thing is what I noticed on mine. Perhaps some other people could chime in if they have seen similar circumstances.
Or maybe worst case scenerio- you got fakes-.
Where did you buy them?

Is everything else looking good on the bill?
Colorchanging symbol, ultraviolet marking with the denomination in the center, horse head watermark, metallic inks, securty thread?

Here is a key to Arabic numerals - I believe the 1st line of arabic is the 'type' used in Iraq and on the bills.

Good Find Minigirl. I believe the 2 and 3 were the "7's" I was talking about.
The second line says Persian, Iraq was originally called Persia, so maybe that's the correct set?
In that case, the 2,3,4 and the 6 and 9 could look similar depending on the size of the print or the font.

I think it's the Arabic-Indic line. I have the one that looks like a '7' in several instances and that's not in the persian verison.

ok you guys got our curiousity!! we decided to play with some money :D .......We thought we had some the same but after looking soooooo closely they are not. Some are so different than others its obvious and then some are just very very close. I mean close enough that we thought they were and then walked away and looked again!!

Where did you get them? We got ours "direct", not ebay or any seller online. We feel pretty comfortable that ours are legit!!!

I noticed the same thing. The number that looks like a '7', is the only similarity I noticed. Like someone wrote above...take a magnifying glass and you can see one looks 'straight' on the horizontal line and the other looks like a 'wave' on the horizontal line. I have great eyesight and didn't notice without the glass. I've heard of the 250 denoms being counterfeit, but according to the story it was only in baghdad.

I had that same "problem" until I examined them closer and saw that they were actually different symbols, if all the other security features are there there should be no worries.

In this country, the numbers are in Arabic and English on the plates. This is how I normally try to remember them.

FYI. Per the following link. "While Arabic letters are written from right-to-left, numbers in Arabic are written from left-to-right"

wow, I didn't know that numbers are left-to-right, that must be confusing when reading right-to-left and you stumble upon a number? only confusing to us that can't read arabic. lol

Thanks for the link - those are bigger examples - easier to read! Thanks EW!

Hey,

It's not very confusing... when you're used to it, it comes naturally.

Below is the Arabic vs. English numerals. You need to notice that the "2" and "3" are very similar... and if you are sure that you have any 2 notes with the EXACT same serial number, you better contact you seller to check that you didn't buy a counterfiet!

Take care,
Amer

:) Just got another order from Amer, www.iraqpapermoney.com, this was my fourth or fifth. I've only used registered mail. Takes awhile, but I've always got them. Today I had to show my Drivers license and sign for them. I like that security. Keep up the good work!

mini thats right in my country when you write or read you read from right to left thats how all our books are.

yeah, I know that - but I didn't realize that numbers are read from LEFT to RIGHT! That would make me buggy if that was the case here - only in reverse!

"Yesterday, I purchased 0000001 dinar from Amer." huh? LOL

i've been hearing rumors that buying the 25000 denominations isnt smart. 1, if the currency does go up, u'll be taxed because it's over 10,000 in value so getting the 5000 denoms is smarter. 2, if the currency goes up as i dream it does every day, the iraq govt might take away the 25,000 becaue it will be a too high valued bill. tell me whta you guys think

All my notes are 25,000. So what if i get taxed. Thats the least i can do for the united states for making it possible to make a few bucks off the dinar. Remeber, "Pigs get fat hogs get slaughtered"

you still didnt address my statement in regards to iraq withdrawing the 25000 currency note. it might be taken away because it's value might be too high. tell me what you have to say about that

This is addressed in a couple of places on this board, so for more info you'll want to go on a search, but to ease your mind, they wouldn't just "take it away" - - they'd phase it out, not produce any new bills - banks would take them in, but not give them out. They'd still be valid currency.

Also, you'll be taxed on your US Dollars when you exchange the dinar, not your 25000 dinar. If the value is ever 1 USD: 1 IQD, I'll happily pay the capital gains!!! :D
