I'd like to know as well, there's one a mile away. Just think of the postage I could save. Maybe I'll call tomorrow, then I'll post their reply.

I would call and ask someone in foreign currency. My local bank were I live sells dinar and they are not a major bank. My wife use to work for them and called and asked her old sup and she said they were, we were shocked and then she let us know they buy from chase and resell to customers. I would call all of the local banks to find out for sure, and as far a HSBC I do not know...

Just got back from the local HSBC, they don't sell or buy currencies from countries they don't do business with. This pertaines to IQD, I also asked about the Viet Nam Dong, same story, nada. I'll keep looking, there are many banks in my area and at least one of them sells Dinar!

Yes, you are exactly right! HSBC bought Dar Es salam bank. So they cannot say they do not do buisness. Someone needs to find an article about HSBC buying Dar Es Salaam, bring it into a branch, and hold it in front of their manager.

HSBC has proved to be of no help to me in my IQD nor in my wire transfers to warka.

Ill look for the article, if anybody finds one about Dar Es Salaam and HSBC, please post.

thanks

I just my do that! Funny, the girl I saw today said someone came into the bank last week to SELL DINAR to them! He was turned away, for the same reason I was told, HSBC doesn't do IQD. One thing I wish I could get my hands on is the large soft-cover book with all the currencies they do handle, what pictures!

One more thing about HSBC, they don't do Viet Nam Dong either. The exchange rate for that is $1 = 11,000 Dong FYI

This isn't about HSBC, but I was curious...do you have to have an account with Chase in order to purchase from them? Also, would you have to purchase in person? Can you do it over the phone? I'm in the midwest. There are no Chase banks listed close by.
Also, does anyone know what they are charging for a mil??
Thanks in advance folks! This has been a blast watching the boards lately.

OK! I have the last word, from the Manhattan HSBC International currency center. NO! No selling or buying of the IQD, regardless of them owning a bank in Iraq. We must look elsewhere. Please keep us posted.

No, you don't need an account to purchase.

Cost = $377 half mil last week + $5 for no account fee

Orders over the phone? Not likely!

Need me to pick you up a mil PM me I'll give you my phone # and get them for you, cost plus Postage. I have a Chase 2 blocks away and have done for several friends in Montana / Idaho

Hmmm interesting...You mention that HSBC owns 70% of Dar Es Salaam Investment Bank in Iraq, then waited for a another response.

I have checked with chase and this is what they told me. I can purchase up to 1 million dinar with a $5 handling fee I think he told me 764.00/1,000,000 without an account. If you open some form of account savings/checking there is no handling fee and you can purchase as much as you want. Another cool feature about chase is you have 3 options in the size of the currency you want, 1) all large bills *25,000 notes*, 2) combination of large and small, 3) and finally you can purchase all small denoms and the great thing is its all the same price per million - no extra fee's for smaller denoms...hope this helps
