From a great blogger, Chrenkoff:

Welcome to the fifth installment of Good News From Iraq (http://chrenkoff.blogspot.com/2004/07/good-news-from-iraq-part-5.html), and the first one after the transition of sovereignty. The media, much annoyed at having missed out on a photo-op, has had a field day trying to delegitimise and downplay the transfer: if it wasn't a sham because of the continuing Coalition presence, it was a meaningless gesture considering the litany of problems facing the new Iraq....more on the link...

That's an outstanding link!

It's a pitty the US news services are shifting to political games instead of doing the job they get paid for. Lately, IMHO they have been nothing but an insult to the memory of Edward R Morrow.

Fantastic link! That 1st-hand Marine account on Rajiv Chandrasekaran, the Baghdad bureau chief for The Washington Post, was especially illuminating.

Overall, the American Media is a sad state of affairs given their large influence and unrestrained ability to spin the "news" in whatever way they wish, despite the lack of experience the "author" may have on a subject.

For any complex or controversial issue, the key to gaining an accurate perspective is comprehensive research taking in all accounts from various sources and sides to the issue, to see where the truth lies and lies & contradcitions are hidden.

When it is all said and done: When Iraq is the Japan of the middle east. All the major network news stations will have egg on their faces. It is truly a cring shame that they cannot just give us the facts.
