If you were given $100,000 and had to invest it to make as much money as possible, what would you do with it?

I would like out of the ordinary answers too......

I'll invest it in terms of personal development. Learn a new language and musical instrument and postgraduate studies. The ROR can never be quantified that way but I expect it to be enormous.

I don't think I put the question clearly enough.

Lets say you entered a competition where you and other contestents were given $100,000 to invest over 1 year and the person who makes the most profit keeps it.

lets also say that you will have a camera crew following you around for a year so investing in shares, dinars etc wont make good viewing so the investment has to be "entrepreneurial".

what would you do with the money?

My theory is people who invest in dinar are generally entrepreneurial.

I there for put this question out there to give people a chance to show entrepreneurial they really are.

so come on play hard to win

what sort of things they would you do in order to win the money...here is $100,000 now you can invest in any thing you want. Perhaps later we can set up a vote to who we think should be crowned Forum Entrepreneur... I may donate a prize for the poll... :shhh:

At the same time we have built another very interesting thread...

so come on who is going to play first? ;)

i would invest in real estate. it has been a 7 plus% increase in value for years now. with 100,000 I could buy 2 million dollars worth of property and with the loans out there today you can cashflow like a madman. problem is it takes money to make money. plus you cant beat the tax breaks and it would be a good place to eat up all the capital gains we would get nailed with when dinar hits. :D

After hiring a very creative CPA I would open a house of ill repute in Thailand. Maybe a small hotel and bar on the side. Sure beats the stock market or dealing in FOREX.

I'm still racking my brain about what I would do with the $100,000 ....

I would NOT invest in anything just yet. I would sit back and watch all the rest of you entrepreneurs spend yours chasing the prize. After a while it will become more evident, those that are showing some progress and those that are, ummm shall we say stuck in the mud. After careful review of all the options I would have to pick from. I would seek out to make a joint partnership with the one, two, or three of you(hedging). That I thought would have the best chance at winning. I would then Buy a stake in your venture and request 51% control, Reminding you that even Paul Allen is a billionaire ;) . You/they of course would sign because you will need my cash infusion to push your Investment over the top and win. Therefore, in the end you would be the winner and So would I because we worked together and nobody would know a thing. After the contest is over we would settle up. you give me My 51% and you get to keep The Trophy and the other 49%

Here's one NOT to do:

Man Sentenced for $100,000 Investment Fraud
West Palm Beach—A Palm Beach County man has received a prison term for defrauding a retiree of $100,000. Mark S. Thomas, 38, of Wellington, Florida, was sentenced this morning by Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Edward Garrison to ten years in state prison. After a two-day trial, a jury found Thomas guilty of grand theft and securities fraud.

The case came to trial following an investigation by the Florida Department of Banking and Finance (DBF), directed by Comptroller Bob Milligan. According to investigators at DBF's Southeast Florida Regional Office in West Palm Beach, Thomas persuaded a 59-year-old retired schoolteacher from Pennsylvania to invest $100,000 in a non-existent company. Investigators testified that Thomas told the victim the company manufactured aluminum batteries for electric cars, and instructed her to wire the money to his personal account in a West Palm Beach bank. The investigation revealed that Thomas used the investment for his personal benefit. All communications between Thomas and the victim were conducted by telephone, according to investigators.

I've got 100 g's just sitting here collecting dust.
I need more choices for a bin'ess partner.

The only ones' that look good so far is

1 RET and the Merry Maids Domestic Engineers cleaning service.
Only problem is that there is stiff competition from the Topless maid service.:happy64:

2 okie and the house of ill repute in Thailand. I would love to invest in this one. However, A Texas boy and an Okie from muskogee running a brothel in Thailand. With a bar on the side hmmmmm I dont' think there would be much profits after the year long party.:lmao:

3 Weston? c'mon AMD? I would have figured you for NT(nortel) Ouch! I only lost 10,000 on them this year

4 Bryan..... Way to complexed attorneys and accountants fees would bankrupt us.

5 usajmg93f TAX Leins? Uhh The trick here is to dodge the IRS. Ya know, leave sleeping dogs lye.

6 toryangski. Sorry Kid, your a career student. Those student loans will haunt you forever.

7 onepence. To many retired folks have beat you to this one. Lets see we only have 30 craft shows a year in our town.

8 bottlebush. hmmm There could be potential here. Let me think............................................. ................. Got it! I can place a webcam on you and people would pay to see you just sit over there and rock back-n-forth, back-n-forth...... We could make T-shirts and Buttons. Cowpoke, you are truely crazy!

OK, RET is thinking something along the lines of your #1 idea ... I'll run and organize things, but I WILL NOT be providing the services ... I need a break and would want this for myself ..."Queen for a Day" ....

House gets cleaned top to bottom, chef comes in and fixes a fabtabulous meal (and enough dinners for a week that he puts in the freezer- ready to go), spa service ... limo picks you up in the morning, then returns you home after the cleaners and chef are gone.

Something that is really big right now is HOME ORGANIZERS ... I think that might be a good one to research. People are busy, they have a lot of stuff and they are overwhelmed .... needing outside help to get things in order. Organized, simplified life .... many people yearn for that.

He could help me build my computer Home. Party will Herb of SWA. He could let me use his 16 gage shotgun to go hunting with. Just a couple of things I could do.

I would buy property right next to George W Bush, cause i bet the value will triple by the time he is out of office, and the plus to it is---i would have plenty of secret service to keep an eye on people trying to sneak over to my house to bum money from me after the dinar hits..hahaha

may be we should do a poll, closing date for entry  some time in the new year ...a prize may be on offer (don't quit your day jobs), but first I want to see if the suggestions can make any money, so far i'm not convinced even about the christmas tree lights, my $100k stays in my pocket, but the money is still itching...

I would become a "hard money lender". It's not alot to start with, but I think you could.

Reasons to do this:

You help people who can't come up with the money, but are motivated to make $$$.
Most of those people earn a living doing this, so they probably will use your "hard money" 3-4 times per year....compounding your $100k
Investment is typically 3-6 months, at least in this market.
You can make rediculous interest.
You lend to people who fix up homes and improve the real estate market.
If you do your homework, you can't get screwed.
If customer defaults, you foreclose on a piece of RE at pre-determined LTV, usually 65% or under. Turn and sell for even more than you would have received in interest.
Oh yeah, homework is all you'll do. No grunt work, only brain work.

Why is this good??
You are helping people, who couldn't do this type of work without you.
You are helping yourself.
You are helping the local economy.
You are helping the government. (Higher assesment values)
Win, Win for all.

Really cowpoke do you think that lawyers and accounts are needed that much ...????

I do all my own accounting and have attorneys only when needed by law ...

I don;t think that the fees will bankrupt a new company .. unless you do something wrong from the start ...

I don't like to put all the eggs in one basket .....

so if that dosen't appeal to you then ok..

I didn't know you were investing the 100k or was looking for a venture partner...
I believe that different choices is the key to sucessfull investing :D

20,000 into precious metals (I'm getting into gold)
10,000 into my kids DRiPs (the future)

Be careful with that. It could be a scam. Just think. How can a company give double your money within 90 days without going bankrupt? What kind of business is it? There was a similar "business" here last year. It turned out to be a scam. It made the headlines because they did get a lot of people to invest in their "company"
