BAGHDAD, Iraq July 18, 2004 — The miniature Liberty Bell clanged. Elbows flew. Sweat poured down foreheads. Sales tickets were passed and, with a flick of the wrist, 10,000 shares of the Middle East Bank had more than doubled in value. The frantic pace Sunday of those first 10 minutes of trading typified the enthusiasm behind the Iraq Stock Exchange a new institution seen as a critical step in building a new Iraqi economy.

If the stocks jumped roughly 600%, who is making any money if the Dinar isn't worth anything? Stocks jump from 6 to lets say 25, but whats the point? When then will they realize that the economy wants to take off, si they will need to set the table for the Dinar soon, right?

You're right.

Right now, it's like playing with monopoly money. But consider this...

If you invest a million dinar in the market...

earn 600%
you end up with 6 million dinar...

nice little capital gain, once it goes global....

hmmm @ .31 1mil iqd = 310,000 usd
6 mil iqd = (310,000 X 6) = WHOLE LOTTA DOUGH ! :happy64:

Just being slightly picky, but a 600% increase is equivalent to gaining six times the previous amount, so that translates to:

1 million + (6 x 1 million) = 7 million dinars, not 600 million.

600 million would be equivalent to nearly 60,000%.

I'm getting outta Dodge for the RNC. No way I'm stickin around town for that.
So if it opens on 8/31, I won't be doing much from my log cabin in the woods.... Guess I won't be able to trade till after the convention.

I can't blame you Marilyn! M&M = outta there! All those extra people, cops, guns, conventioneers, protesters and possible bad guys, I'd feel ALOT better if you were just upstate. So do it for me. :o

I have a brother in law that commutes every week to Manhatten . He went for coffee on 9-11 and when he returned 15 min later he was locked out of his high security bldg . He was not allowed in for 8 hours . standing on the exterior of this installation not fully understanding what was happening . I sometimes do truck run's to NYC . (CDL ) for a friend that's starting a delivery business extra $ 250 a night . Well I informed that I wasn't going anywhere near NYC for the next 2 months  !!! I felt that we are sitting ducks and there are just too many places too keep 100 % safe . I feel that your faith in GOD is what will keep you safe . :huge:

Yea, you're right. The city is too big to protect. There's no way to pick out the bad guys in a big melting pot like NY. That's how some of the 9/11 terrorists were living across the bay from NY in New Jersey, totally unnoticed.

Thanks Mini... ;)
