Beware all KBR personnel leaving Iraq with large amounts of Iraqi Dinar.
Large amounts of Iraqi dinar and large amounts of jewelry or counterfit items are currently being confiscated by Iraq customs. I guess they dont want americans to invest in thier economy.

Sounds like they are doing their job. Dinars are not supposed to go outside Iraq at this time, so this doesn't suprise me.

My husband came home in early July on R&R and had no problem with any customs with the dinar. He was carrying (in his pocket) about 1.6 mil or so.

Besides, where the heck is "iraq customs" its not like they stop at the border for a friendly chat. They stay in their convoys and its full speed ahead until they are on the other side.

Did they compensate you for the cost you paid? Did you have receipts available for them to pay you what it cost? If not, that is blatent thievery in my book. Damn G-men...LOL

Hello all, just got an e-mail from a friend coming home on emergency leave, said customs is confiscating dinars at Baghdad airport. Right now, the best way ( if youre over there ) is to slip a few into letters home and mail frequently. Had 100% success when I was over in country. Just dont try to put in too many and puff up the envelope, also inserted a few pictures and marked "do not bend".
Only other way is to try your luck at being a smuggler as most packages are now being scrutinized more

Does anyone know how this will affect buyers in Jordan or Kuwait? Will it be any more difficult to purchase dinars in the future?

Also, why are they begining to crack down now? Do they know something we don't?

As far as affecting bulk shipments of dinars to Jordan, Kuwait & Lebanon and such.......well, we are talking the mid-east. I'm sure as long as the right people are taken care dinars will still be available out of country. If you see prices starting to edge up with no significant news that probably will mean that it really is getting difficult to get dinars out of country.
