I wasn't sure where to post this, but I've avoided Ebay until stage 2 of this little venture. Stage 1 was getting funds across to Warka.

Now I'm dabbling with getting some cash in hand, 250-500K or so for now, I've noticed that Ebay here in Australia has about 60-70% of dinar listings for the old Saddam notes ! Frustrating for me as a potential buyer, but it shows that the new IQD is either drying up or is being held onto in this country at least.

Just wondering if it has become like that elsewhere ??

Dear Garf,
Here in the UK I looked last night on ebay & saw 69 auctions for dinar & quite a few were for the old Saddam ones so you have to be careful. Compared to 2 or 3 months ago when there were 250 to 300+ auctions, it has diminished dramatically. Also, most of the auctions were for individual notes now with only about 4 or 5 for 1million & a few more for 100k or 50k, whereas previously most of the auctions were for 10mill, 1mill or 500k. The 1mill sites are asking for at least £550 or up to £650 where before they used to be around £390 to £420.
So the answer is Yes, you are correct in that the dinar is gradually drying up worldwide.
I would also like to say that in our ebay listings were some from Portugal & a few other countries, so that list of 69 really comes down a bit if we only want to count UK dealers.
Here's hoping for a BIG one & soon'

EBay listings in the USA squelched down quite a bit until just recently, and in the slight resurgence, they changed character similarly to what you're seeing. Lots of auctions for single notes, and relatively few for 1 Million dinar or more. And of course, the prices are up quite a bit too...

I have been watching dinar on Ebay in the US for the last year and have noticed the number of Saddam notes is on the rise. My theory is that there are enough people who don't know better and are buying these as we are, for an investment. I just hope they don't shoot themselves when they take the worthless currency to the bank in 3 years, thinking they have millions .

There are very few auctions any more for 1 million dinar or more, and one seller who used to really sell a lot (the auctions always said "from a military family in arizona") are nowhere to be seen anymore. They regularly sold 5, 10 and even 100 million dinar auctions - they have been off of Ebay since November and even then I noticed their number of auctions dwindling significantly and only for smaller amounts.

Hmmmmm

The thing that concerns me about holding physical (Dinar) currency, is the uncertainty revolving around its origins.

It could easily be the case that although innocently bought through dealers in the Middle East and passed on to us through eBay, that when we come to cash out.....it turns out the batch we have is identified through the serial numbers as having been stolen....and is worth NOTHING!

I've already read something a while ago about Warka's policy on this, if it turns out to be stolen, they won't exchange, and that is bound to be the common view amongst money exchangers.

I'm not just trying to be alarmist, and get people uptight needlessly, I've got a SHED LOAD of currency at home, so I'm in the same (uncertain) situation.

What would be helpful, is if the CBI could publish info on serial numbers of stolen batches, then we might have a clue where we stand.

Additionally, I've also got a Warka account, and have most of my interest in the Dinar tied up there, so actually diversification is the key, that's my view.

Well, one of the new things (i think it's new) is the AML (Anti-money Laundering) page at the CBI Web site. It contains "The List" as well as others related to money laundering. Having said that, i don't think there's too much to worry about if you got your Dinar from reputable sources.

I hadn't seen that...they changed their advertising layout on the listing screen...that's them alright. As stated above, they no longer sell large lots of dinar (maybe no takers but probably they are having no trouble shovelling it off at $1000+ per million!) Yowza.
