Agree with you PegBundy. These politicians should stop bickering over the cost of the Iraqi war in dollars but in body counts instead.

if it was their sons and daughters they might.
but I still doubt it.......they are a special breed....blinded by ambition and power!

Maybe an idea to adopt the lost child on a milk carton strategy to force the Bush administration to start cracking the whip. For every soldier who dies in action their photo is put on a carton.

a reality check? ITS A WAR! PEOPLE DIE!

When I joined he marines I was well aware that I may go to war that I may die. But I did it to protect what I believe in, my country, ideology, our INTERESTS! The fine troops that have lost their lives knew fully well what they are getting into. IMO I'm quite surprise we have lost (officially) a little over 3200 people. You can't fight a war without getting dirty. I really hate when people bring up body counts this bags that. I'm sure if there was a way to fight a war without anyone dieing everyone would be on board. Ive lost 9 of my good buddies to Iraq/Afghanistan and I know DAMN well they wouldn't want us to stop with it until it was finished. So please don't spit out this "reality check" horse flop. ITS A WAR! WITH PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE US!

2973 people died in the Trade Centers in a matter of minutes, and here we've lost little over 3200 in 4 years? We lost 153,000 in Vietnam, we lost over 600,000 in the American civil war.. POINT IS PEOPLE WILL DIE!

We understand that, however there is no "acceptable quota" that we want to recognize. My point was not to undermine the position of the war, but what really bugs me about reading posts on this site, is the people who are so greedy and anxious to potentially become wealthy and show ABSOLUTELY ZERO GRATITUDE OR RECOGNITION to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Before any of you go out and blow your wad on an Escalade, make a donation to a family, go visit one, or volunteer. If you don't, you are no better than any politician using the war as a talking point for your own agenda.

Not to sound like a sick'o or anything, but this post is exactly right. Since 9-11 I've spent 2 and a half years overseas (wish I would have bought more dinar Iraq). You join the Military knowing fully that you may die in combat. YOUR FREEDOM IS NOT FREE, IT IS PAID FOR BY THE BLOOD OF YOUR MILITARY! What's sick is the way the country is looking these days. The "false patriotism" after 9-11. Everyone rushed out to buy Flags and stupid little decals for their cars. How long did that last? -it was just a fad for most. Most people spend their time living thru the TV other's actually live life. Here's one of my favorite speeches.....

"We may well be in the most violent times in history, but violence is still remarkably rare. This is because most citizens are kind, decent people who are not capable of hurting each other, except by accident or under extreme provocation. They are sheep.

I mean nothing negative by calling them sheep. To me it is like the pretty, blue robin's egg. Inside it is soft and gooey but someday it will grow into something wonderful. But the egg cannot survive without its hard blue shell. Police officers, soldiers and other warriors are like that shell, and someday the civilization they protect will grow into something wonderful. For now, though, they need warriors to protect them from the predators.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

"Then there are sheepdogs," he went on, "and I'm a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf."

If you have no capacity for violence then you are a healthy productive citizen: a sheep. If you have a capacity for violence and no empathy for your fellow citizens, then you have defined an aggressive sociopath--a wolf. But what if you have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for your fellow citizens? Then you are a sheepdog, a warrior. Someone who can walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.

Let me expand on this old soldier's excellent model of the sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. We know that the sheep live in denial; that is what makes them sheep.
The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog that intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

Understand that there is nothing morally superior about being a sheepdog; it is just what you choose to be. Here is how the sheep and the sheepdog think differently. The sheep pretend the wolf will never come, but the sheepdog lives for that day. After the attacks on September 11, 2001, most of the sheep, that is, most citizens in America said, "Thank God I wasn't on one of those planes." The sheepdogs, the warriors, said, "Dear God, I wish I could have been on one of those planes. Maybe I could have made a difference." When you are truly transformed into a warrior and have truly invested yourself into warriorhood, you want to be there. You want to be able to make a difference."

if this country doesn't shape up as a whole, and go back to our roots of a "nation" vs a "person" this place is doomed, and soon. I for will be part of any revolution that brings the original ideas this country stands for, if I loose my life so be it. I can't even begin to explain my frustration and this country nothing but me me me me me! when it should be us us us us.

i have my escape plan.. I always have one if the growing up in the military and serving it taught me anything is, find a way out in ANY situation. MY chick thinks I'm nuts when I enter a building first thing I look for is exits and fastest way out.. paranoia I assume, but 1 day it will pay off :)

Take a step back dude........

I too have served my country in the military. And I am in Iraq as a contractor now. I know the chances we take when we enter the military or decide to work on army helicopters as a contractor in a war zone. But It is not a bad thing to remember those who have given their lives for us and our country. When you join the armed forces, you know you are taking a chance of going to war and losing your life, but I'd imagine everyone who has given up their lives would want to be appreciated and remembered. You need to step off your soap box.......the reality check is for the fact that the only thing most people on here care about is how fast and how much of a buck they can make without regard to the people fighting to straighten this mess up so that the people such as you and I can make money from it. Reminding people of, and remembering the fallen does not in any way indicate whether someone is or is not for this war. Snap out of it. Seems as though you need a reality check.....

take it as u wish.. I was making a generalization of how the media says "the cost of war" and "reality check" and its "to high" with all the American deaths. either way up to you what you think. If you feel I made a personal attack I'm sorry wasn't meant to be interpreted that way. If i attack a person I will always say their name.
