A terse posting on an Internet chat site that frequently carries messages from militant Sunni organizations in Iraq seems to suggest that the group known as the "Islamic State of Iraq" carried out the attack on the Iraqi parliament today. However, without further details, IraqSlogger cannot refer to this as a credible claim of responsibility. The message appeared approximately an hour after news of the attack broke.
The subject of the message reads: "Breaking News: Huge Explosion against the Iraqi Parliament Building, Tens of Victims, Among Them Deputies."
The full text of the message reads: "This is a message from the Islamic State of Iraq to the Islamic Army, that all who will negotiate with the occupiers and their agents, we will reach them wherever they are."
Time Magazine was the first to report (http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1609521,00.html) on this Internet posting, and apparently stands by its interpetation of the message as a claim of responsiblity by the Islamic State of Iraq for the Parliament attack.
Statements from the Islamic State of Iraq have appeared before on this particular Internet forum. The statements are usually more detailed with more verifiable information, often containing florid prose and multiple references to the Qu'ran. For example, see IraqSlogger's report on a statement (http://www.iraqslogger.com/index.php/post/1696/Iraqis_Kidnapped_in_Retaliation_for_Rape) apparently issued last month by the group which contains translated excerpts.
Until further evidence surfaces, IraqSlogger cannot report that the posting translated in full above is a credible claim of responsibility.
The Islamic Army of Iraq, referred to in the Internet posting, apparently issued a statement last week (http://www.iraqslogger.com/index.php/post/2266/Sunni_MP_US_Helped_Shape_Iraq_Oil_Law) condemning the actions of al-Qa'ida in Iraq, calling on Osama bin Ladin to intervene personally to rein in al-Qa'ida's activities in Iraq.

I heard on the news that they think it was the bodygaurd of a sunni woman parliment member. Also that the parliment member was one of the casualties. My guess would be that this bodygaurd had the trust of the parliment member, and security to get into the area where he detonated his suicide bomb.

I hope this will heighten the resolve of the Iraqi government to act. Seems they are fighting for their lives. Maybe once they are cornered they will do what needs to be done for their survival, and to save their country.

The GOI better "rehabilitate" the Iraqi economy now, or run for their lives!

I think that while this was deffinately a terrible thing to happen, I think that this will be the best thing to show the slow moving Iraqi lawmakers that even in the fortified green zone, they can still be hit. So now they have to start passing lawas to create a more secure nation and get the young men with wives and families to work.

The best way to get a young terrorist to change profession is to get him a $60k paying job with full bennies. Let his wife talk to her friends and hang out at the theme park in Iraq a few times. make a picnic, and when he comes home, she has a nice lil 'miriams secret' "welcome home" outfit on for her hard working Mu hagadeen bread winner, I could gauran-damned-tee you, he is giving his 2 second notice to Al Sadr.

"I quit, wifes makeing meat loaf tonight, and is putting it on again tonight. She is doing this thing she heard from the U.S. call falatio? I dont know what it is, but she says it will knock my sox off. My kids are loving life, and have full bellies and cant wait to see their dad. I cant die now. I have SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR"

Arent we living for the pleasure of G-D and for the live of our kids? Aint that a blessing!?

That would be sooooo damned cool!

You are incorrectly assuming that by the time someone gets to the point that they are willing to blow themselves up for a cause that they still have the ability to value life the way you and I do and can make a rational decision to ditch the "bombers life" for the "good life". I'm guessing that by the time someone gets far enough along that they are willing to die for their cause they are so messed up in the head that they can't just simply say.."Well, forget this bombing crap...I think I'll be a family man from now on."

You have presented, in layman's terms, what a reval would do for the Iraqi man & his family. Well put!
