I just watched Hardball with Chris Mathews. One of his guests was Robert Kennedy Jr. who was discussing evironmental issues. The topic came up about Kerry's goal of reducing dependence on Persian Gulf Oil and how drilling in the Alaskan Nature Reserve would not accomplish that goal. By requiring auto manufacturers to increase fuel consumption by 7 mpg, that would eleminate U.S. dependency on Persian Gulf oil by 100%.

Not sure if it holds water, however, that is what Mr. Kennedy reported. Then Ben Stein came on and I was happy again...LOL. If you can find the trascript on CSNBC for both guests, it was a good news report. They weren't going head to head, they were discussing seperate issues as seperate guests.

wow, only 7%? That's astounding, but I'm inclined to believe it considering this country's consumption!! :)

What time is it there EW??

Just to ensure there is no confusion, that was 7 MPG not percent. It is 1300L or 1:00 PM civilian time.

All-in-all, it's Kerry's simplistic appeal to the American
Public that he's "looking out for them" by lowering fuel consumption.

All that to apease a country that es about the paying 2.50 for
a GALLON of GAS (which is drastically lower than it is in Europe), while standing in line to pay $3.50 for a CUP of COFFEE at Star*ucks. :rolleye03
