O.K. People. Understanding that investing in foreign currency is risky, but I feel like I need to take some more risks. Living on the edge is nuts, but exciting.

Anyone have any facts or instructions on how to purchase stocks in the Vietnam Stock Exchange????

Any direction will be helpful.. :huge: :huge: :huge: :huge:

Yeah if you're okay with practically paying $30+ per stock share, the Vietnamese stock market is no longer cheap. I wish I would've gotten into the Vietnamese stock market at its early stages, but that boat left already if it was was there to start with...

Nice 500,000 shares in the ISX, I wish you the best of luck with those.

Now if only the ISX goes the way of Vietnamese stock market (regardless of the exchange rate), then will be in the money...;)

thanks add, but I just wish I could make that 1 mil mark of stock shares.my gut tells me that at 1 mil shares,I might be able to be a millionaire.but less,= a 500,000aire. I think we will see at least .50 a share sometime in the future once everybody and their goat wants to finally get in. but 1.00 would be great!....................kyle

Well if you're able to get to a million shares you'll more likely be closer to possibly making millions in the future. I currently hold millions of shares in the ISX, but remember not to over stretch yourself. Only invest what you're okay with losing, you know as that saying goes...;)

Ditto That - I have over 1.15 Million shares in the ISX. I hope that we see the same performance from the ISX as we have with the Vietnam Stock Exchange. even if the shares reach a dollar each!!!!

This is highly possible even before an RV

We will IMO and much more then your wildest dreams.

Stocks are what create mega millionair's (Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Intel) (To name a few) when of course you are in the right place at the right time!

Think there won't be a few of these (and more) in Iraq? ;)

A much better investment is in the Mexican Stock Exchange (Bolsa Mexicana de Valores) is HOT HOT HOT right now. Closer to home, and you can buy some of the companies' shares through your Ameritrade account. And with a declining dollar, the peso is set to float even higher. Cemex, American Movil. Others in the pre-fab housing market, oil and gas services companies. Forget about the Vietmanese stock market, youre too late.

It's encouraging to know that the Viet Nam Stock Market took off without a major change in their currency. The Dong is about worthless but your saying their stock market train left the station. Maybe Iraq could follow suit !! Let's Hope !!

"Vietnam markets on roll after upbeat gains

"Vietnamese stocks opened the week on an upward trend Monday, sending both the Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi indexes skyward.

***

This comes after a time when stocks fell, and an article (I cannot locate) from this same site posted yesterday that foreigners were buying up in increased numbers.

Dont forget Vietnam is an exporting nation where most everybody works in mass-production factories making chips or cell phone parts. It works for them to keep a low currency value. As they become more prosperous you will see the change, probably 3-5 years before a float of their currency to .01 to .03. Keep buying those Dongs.

Vietnam's stock exchange was launched in Ho Chi Minh City only six years ago. Today, it is still a minnow with 50 listed firms and a market capitalization of $3 billion. Daily volume barely scratches $10 million. But that volume already is a 20-fold increase from the daily volume during January this year. Thirty new stock offerings are expected before the end of the year. Hanoi is moving ahead with plans to list shares of large, state-owned enterprises in banking, telecoms and mining. The market will soon have a market cap of more than $10 billion before the target date of 2010. Increases like this indicate that the market may be reaching the tipping point that emerged in the Russian and Eastern European markets 10 years ago. Investors in Vietnam may be set to make the same 20x returns that investors in Russia did over the past 10 years.

I understand I’m too late for the big boom, but I believe there is still a potential of profits in that market.

Does any more know how one may start investing in the Vietnamese Stock Market? Brokers? What not.

And

How about the Chinese Stock Market? What’s going over there?

I read somewhere that to invest in Vietnam Stocks it would be the same as Warka. Open a savings account and buy thru the Bank. Here is a link for a Vietnam Savings account.

Speeding up the process of equtising State-owned enterprises to eventually be listed on the country's bourses will increase the volume, supply and generate sustainable development for the markets, economists said.
Nguyen Doan Hung, Vice Director of the State Securities Commission, said that when the stock market became too "hot" over the first few months of the year, administrative measures were proposed to limit demand.
A cap on demand can calm prices and the markets immediately but may also lead to negative impacts in the long term, he added.
The government has therefore decided to increase supply to stabilise the market through the acceleration of equtisation of State-owned corporations in order to negate these side effects, Hung said.
The Prime Minister, in agreement with the policy has also given the go ahead for 70 large State owned economic groups to be equitised during the 2007-2010 period. About 20 State-owned corporations and commercial banks are to go through the process this year.
According to Nguyen Kim Toan, Head of the Enterprise Renovation Department, the equitisation of State-owned enterprises has been sped up with 3,060 businesses going public by late 2006.
Pundits have also forecast that with the presence of banking, beverage and telecommunication sectors, the total value of listed shares will triple by late 2007 and be five times higher than the current figure by the end of 2008.
In 2006, the total number of listed companies increased to 193 with the total value of shares coming in at over 221 trillion VND (14 billion USD), accounting for 22.7 percent of GDP. The figure has already surpassed the 15 percent target set in the government's strategy to develop the domestic stock market through 2010.
The Vietnamese stock market was evaluated to have the world's fastest growth for 2006 and is expected to make up to 30 percent of the country's GDP this year.

I certainly think that we missed the boat by about 6 years with the vietnam stock exchange, but - I also think though that there is still money to be made here.

I am going to try and open up an account with HSBC Vietnam and buy some shares through them. I think that there is still a margin of maybe 5 to 10 times your investment over a couple of years.

worth a punt of $1000 to open the account - who knows maybe worth $5,000 to $10,000 in a few years time

There is also the possibility of an RV or a lop and a small RV as a multiplier to your share capital
