View Full Version : Just wondering ...

I haven't seen any real news on the VND for a while. Anybody see anything I may have missed?
Also ..., I've seen it mentioned here a few times, but have not found anything to support the theory that the IMF does not want the VND and NID to RV at different times for fear of double dipping. Just wondering where this "RV at the same time so no double dipping" theory came from ... Has anyone actually seen anything from the IMF (or elsewhere) to lend credibility to this? I'm not doubting it, just wondering ...
I don't see them talking about any reval, let alone RV's at the same time. BTW, if you read any of my posts you'll know I am in the camp that believes both will RV. Actually, as was pointed out in another thread, [my belief is] the NID will "revert" back to it's true value.
P.S. I do NOT want to beat that dead horse again!!! There are plenty who feel otherwise. As we each gather what info we can, we form different "gut" feelings, but the truth is, no one KNOWS. With so many different ideas however, sooner, or later ... someone will be right, and others proven wrong. (I really hope I'm one of those who are guessing right! :happy26: )
i recently sold a VERY little amount of dinar and got myself some dong with the money. id be interested in this info too. nice post ;)

I haven't seen much news lately either, and I look almost everyday. Of course there's a zillion articles out there talking about how well they're doing, but only a few that seem to mention anything concerning their currency or a reval. That having been said, here's a few.
Vietnam, with a small but fast-expanding economy, wants the restricted Vietnamese dong to be convertible in the international market, a central bank official said on Thursday.

Vietnam Prospers Under WTO Membership
As a new World Trade Organisation (WTO) member, Viet Nam enjoyed many new opportunities to expand Vietnamese goods across the world market, particularly to the US and EU markets which were restricted by quotas before WTO membership.

According to Peter Soh, Foreign Exchange Director in Singapore under DBS group, the biggest bank in Southeast Asia, all believe that Vietnam will follow the path China has gone, and that the VND will increase in value.

Exchange rates may trip economy in 2007
Since September 2006, local banks have experienced US dollar surpluses for the first time with massive dollar inflows into the booming stock exchange and sharp increases in FDI attraction. This situation has put pressure on the State Bank, as the ultimate purchaser of local banks’ dollar surpluses, to revalue local currency.

I think the "RV at the same time so no double dipping" theory came from reasoning and nothing else.
