Saw this in the paper today.

BAGHDAD, March 13: Talks between Iraq's leading parties on forming a new government have collapsed, crushing hopes it would be in place before parliament, elected despite relentless violence, meets for the first time this week.

This is too bad, I was really hoping to see everything come together better.

I have a feeling they they will manage to come to some kind of compromise. The countrys stability depends on it and if they do now work out a solution they know they will all be the losers.

The news regarding this situation changes every day. This morning's news now states that the Kurds have are extremely close to pounding out the final deal, possibly by Wednesday when the new parliament convenes. No worries, the Kurds through negotiation have effectively prevented the Shiites from forming any new kind of theocratic state in the future, which is great news. Happy days ahead :happy26:

It will take you an hour to read all this good news;

the haggling will go on for a while, its about dividing up the land rights in Kirkuk, all rich oil fields...
get over the fussing fellas and divide it up, the whole country has enough resources to support ALL its citizens with great wealth. the parliment will convene on the 16th anyways.
US happy friends of Iraq ---we support you all!

When they can get all they want from the CBI for 1462.5?!?!?!? :confused:
If it's true it's a good sign (not to sound like I doubt ya Linds), If they're buying back dinar at 1402 this means that they are speculating the value to go up , and who better to speculate the value to go up than the Trade Bank of Iraq. They must know something! They are essentially saying that if you want to sell back your dinars we are willing to buy them back at marginal profit level for the seller. This means the Dinar is about to move in my opinion; 1402 is an increase and they're willing to buy at that # because they know it is about to increase more, providing a profit for both buyer and seller!! :happy64: :happy64:
Where do you find that they are "buying back" Lindsey?

I may have misunderstood this (hat tip to JeffP) but here it is scrolling at the bottom of the page. Good website to bookmark anyway.

:confused: So they are buying it for more then they are selling it? Does anyone know why the USD is the only currency with such a discrepancy?

No, they're buying dollars at a rate of 1402 dinars per dollar and selling dinars back at a rate of 1522:1, so there's a "spread" in effect that is profitable for them and also effectively discourages the conversion to dollars by Iraqis and encourages the purchase of dinars.

That's my take.
