Iraq's parliament voted on Saturday to extend its present legislative session to the end of July to try to pass crucial bills aimed at national reconciliation, lawmakers said......

The session was previously scheduled to end on June 30.

MPs have come under increasing pressure to pass laws to equitably distribute the country's oil revenues, to allow members of the former regime to come back to work, and to amend the constitution.

"We hope that these bills will be brought quickly to parliament so that we can pass them in July," said Mahmud Othman, a Kurdish MP. "We may have time to pass the oil law but the other bills may not be ready in time."

Well Addy lets hope these people can get something accomplished on this. Even if it is a watered down version, getting anything decided would be monumentual for the GOI.

Indeed, looks like they want to pass all laws by end of July then have a month off perhaps.

Sorry Adster, didn't mean to hijack your thread..

HCL has 4 parts.. only the revenue sharing part was passed on Wednesday. now I don't know what other parts of the HCL has passed so far.

http://www.iraqupdates.com/p_articles.php/article/18619

I don't know when the complete HCL with all four parts will be passed.. I am not a nansayer.. but if HCL is a hurdle to getting to our RV.. then I don't see any RV before 2008... it took then 10 months to agree on Revenue sharing.. how much longer do u think it will be before the hold package is passed... anybodys guess is good as mine..

I say get it done by June 30 as Bush told them to do. They had 8 + months to get it done and was to busy delaying or taking holidays or vacations off. Just be another excuse for delays later!!! Hell no!!! Get it done NOW!!!!!! Just be another excuse for delays later!!!

IMO the HCL/RSL will be done by end of July. They were never going to make end of June, again, IMO as they have NEVER met a deadline yet. Also believe they are talking about passing debaath law too.

Could still be a few months off, we need other things to be done including debt relief. Best to tick one off at a time guys, but every day is a step closer. :huge:

HCL - done by months end - the rest can be picked off 1 or 2 to a day over July - then they can all go to the Baghdad Country Club for some R&R.

PS - please send me the Hoodie.

Bush told Talabani 3-4 weeks ago, if they didn't get the oil law passed by the end of June we were beginning withdrawl as well as money. Let's hope they have more sense to get it done. But then again, can we really believe the newspapers?

They're not exactly "on time" but if they put it ALL together IN July, good things are sure to follow.

Hopefully this end of July nonsense is just a smoke screen to announce everything (HCL, RSL, Debath & RV) in one big shot at the end of June or the beginning of July, since they are all interrelated. You cannot have all these laws past without an RV of some sort. How much? Who really knows? It's crunch time and they cannot go on vacation without all of it being a done deal. IMO.

Yep your right---Maliki has to get it done by then or Bush will have his head and he knows it!!! Maliki is worried now--he said so himself!!! Read This:

BAGHDAD (AP) - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki fears the Americans will torpedo his government if parliament does not pass a law to fairly divvy up the country's oil wealth among Iraqis by the end of June, close associates of the leader told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"We may have time to pass the oil law but the other bills may not be ready in time."

This article was well translated so this wording is very specific and intentional. That is to say, that the Kurdish source quoted in this article says that under their current June 30th time restriction, they *may* still have time to pass the oil law, but other laws are proving to be troublesome (likely debaath but who knows, there's 50 in total!) The point is twofold; this implies that the HCL is no longer hotly contested, and also that there is a possibility of the HCL still being passed in June as opposed to later in July in conjunction with the other amendments.

Your right. Maliki wants to be rememebred as the PM who facilitated these laws on got Iraq back on it's feet and in the global ecomony. Not the PM who failed. I am sure he has a lot invested in this also.

Al-Maliki knows that it must be passed by 30 June.. I dont think he will let his Parliment deviate from the date prescribed to him.
