WASHINGTON, June 28 (UPI) -- The war in Iraq is the top U.S. issue, respondents to a UPI-Zogby International poll said. The 8,181 participants in a June 15-18 Zogby interactive poll were asked what the top issues facing the United States were. Respondents were asked to give two answers.
The war in Iraq received the plurality of responses at 41.5 percent. Not far behind were immigration (34.7 percent) and terrorism and security (32 percent).
Healthcare in the United State came in fourth at 19.2 percent followed by jobs and the economy (11.1 percent), the environment (8.5 percent) and foreign policy and international relations (8.1 percent).
Government budget issues (7.6 percent) was eighth on the list, with taxes (6.7 percent) at ninth and morality and values and politics, including governmental corruption, tied for 10th at 5.4 percent.
Self-described very conservative participants listed immigration (65 percent) as their top issue followed by terrorism and security (61.7 percent). Some 18.1 percent of the very conservative cited the war in Iraq, which was far and away the top choice of political progressives at 62 percent.
There is a 1.1 percentage-point margin of error in the poll data.
