First phase of Iraqi oil law in Parliament. Zebari denies Kurds oppose the final text
It will take about a week for the Iraqi Parliament to take up the long awaited Iraqi oil law while Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said the crucial revenue sharing section of the law will clear the cabinet Thursday.
Iraq's Cabinet signed off Tuesday the revised bill to regulate the oil industry and sent it to parliament - a major step in reaching a long-delayed benchmark sought by the U.S. to promote reconciliation between Sunnis and Shiites.
Zebari in an interview with The New Anatolian denied Kurds opposed the final text and that they would stall it in Parliament. The Associated Press reported that within hours of the announcement, however, the legislation hit a snag - the Kurds said they had neither seen nor approved the final text and might oppose it.
He said the final text had the blessing of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
