Baghdad, Jul 8, (VOI)- The Iraqi parliament on Sunday made a final reading of the regions bill and also annulled a number of enactments by the defunct Revolutionary Command Council, particularly resolutions contradicting with human rights, a parliamentarian said.
"Today’s session achieved quorum, as more than the required number of members were present," :happy64:legislator Sami al-Askari, from the Shiite Unified Iraqi Coalition, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The lawmaker added "Monday's session is expected to continue discussing regions bill."
Iraqi Parliament failed during the past two weeks in holding sessions, due to that 85 MPs boycotted the parliament sessions and for different reasons.
The total number of Iraqi Parliament’s members is 275; quorum requires the presence of 139 MPs.
On oil and gas draft law, al-Askari added that Parliament had received the draft, and it is now in the hand of the parliament's Oil and Gas Committee and he expected that discussions on it would start next week.:happy64::happy64::happy64::happy64::happy64:
The oil and gas draft law faces strong opposition from some political forces and parliamentary formations, which see it as a threat to the country’s oil wealth.
As regards replacing the House Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhdani, al-Askari said that there were continued discussions among heads of parliamentary blocs and political leaders on the crisis of replacing the Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani.
Al-Askari expressed belief that the next few days will witness a breakthrough in this crisis, on the basis that members of Tawafuq (Accordance) Front realized that other parliamentary blocs insisted that Mashhadani be replaced with another Tawafuq member.
Tawafuq Front has been boycotting Parliament sessions since blocs at parliament demanded that Mashhadani should step down, on the background of accusations that his guards assaulted a Unified Iraqi Coalition MP. AlTawafuq of which Mashhadani is a member, says that investigations into the incident have proved that the Speaker of Parliament is not connected to it.

Every great journey starts with 1 step sometimes I have to remind myself in all the excitement and delays that these people are trying to build a free and democratic country. In my opinion under the conditions they live under and outside forces that try to derail them that they are not doing to bad of a job. Would I like them to be faster...sure I would but at least they keep trying and thats what counts.

I'd be more concerned that they come back and wreak havoc and more delays. Looks to me like things work better without them.

I want this RV to happen as much as the next guy, but I am not sure clapping so enthusiatically at the deaths of 220 people is very appropriate. This seems very tasteless to me.

I believe it is Baja! the most dangerous of all animals is a wounded animal. They will attempt to cause as much chaos as is possible, they'll empty there last magazines. Their too fanatical to know when they are whipped, so long as they have one twelve year old or a kidnap victim to drive a car bomb with a clerics fatwah to give religous acceptance to murderous behaviour.

I don't think we will return troops to Baghdad, General Patreus won't fight for the same ground twice, he won't abandon a single street were the troops have earned the respect of the citizens, where they can at least hope they will not be left to the terrorists!!

While it is very exciting to see actual work getting done in Iraq as we are very near a reval, let us continue to pray for the innocent people in harms way as the violence increases, including our brave men and women in the US military.

It seems as if they have until the end of August to debate and ultimately ratify the oil law, debaath law and reconciliation law.

But they can vote "No Confidence" on Maliki, stall the process until a new PM is selected, and really piss us off...

I wish I could cut if off!!!lol. But seriously, I hope they get their act together and stop using parliament as a bog-down, stalling mechanism. It seems that they got us by the gonads everytime they step into their parliamentary chambers and.........

argue, waste time, stall.

Maliki is completely incompetent, and I think they will deal with that soon...

I'm not so convinced it's him as much as the other 275 boneheads. Much like our pres and the congress ...

I saw him speak and thought he was a pretty sharp guy and was really trying, but with 275 school kids fighting about EVERY little thing ...
