Parliament adjourns sessions until Monday Baghdad - Voices of Iraq

Tuesday , 10 /07 /2007 Time 11:00:11

Baghdad, Jul 10, (VOI)- The Chairmanship of Iraqi Parliament decided to adjourn the House’s sessions till next Monday to give a chance for blocs boycotting sessions to return, a media source from the Parliament said on Tuesday.
"The House sets to debate next week a number of crucial draft laws such as the Oil and Gas, Accountability and Justice, and Regions bill, if quorum was met in case the boycotting blocs resumed attending sessions," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The source did not give more details, but he said that the Parliament sessions would continue uninterrupted after resuming next week.
Three blocs boycotted parliament session for various reasons. They are the Sunni Twafuq Front (44 seats), Shiite Sadrist Bloc (30 seats), and the Sunni National Dialogue Front (11 seats).
The Sadrist Bloc suspended its membership in Parliament after the second bombing attack of a Shiite revered shrine in Samarra last June. It demands the rebuilding of the shrine, assigning adequate protection to them and to the Baghdad – Samarra road before it would attend sessions again.
Tawafuq and National Dialogue blocs boycotted sessions of Parliament after an arrest warrant against the Culture Minister Asaad al-Hashemi, on charges of the killing of the sons of Iraqi Nation Party leader Mithal al-Alousi. The two blocs demanded forming an independent committee to investigate the incident, the annulment of the arrest warrant and halting arrests of Tawafuq MPs’ guards, the release of detained MPs’ guards and the reinstatement of the Speaker of the House Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani to his position.
The oil and gas law is considered as the most controversial issue in Iraq for there are differences between political blocs concerning the law, which deals with the greatest resource of the country.

Unbelievable! They really don't care if the U.S. pulls out or not or are too narrowminded to see their heads stuck on pikes outside the borders of Baghdad if the Iraqi people get their hands on them without U.S. protection....

They don't know they have little time, along with Bush, to turn this around do they??

Thank goodness I have enough left to visit daily.

Kev, dont believe all of the BS you read and hear from the mainstream media. All of the Dems crying out for withdrawl of troops are just postureing for elections. Republicans same same. They are all plying on the emotions of ill-informed public that is screaming for our troops to come home. Very understandable from the mothers and fathers who have lost sons and daughters. Or have had them come home cripled for life. But for the vast majority of anti war folks, its just the "cause" of the time. There is no way on gods green earth we will pull out until the job is finished.

So much for workin' 6 days a week.

http://www.upi.com/Energy/Briefing/2007/07/10/iraqi_parliament_delays_meeting_on_oil_law/6527/

BAGHDAD, July 10 (UPI) -- Iraq's Parliament will wait a week to hold sessions that could tackle controversial issues such as the proposed oil law.

Meanwhile, Kurds say the current version must be changed and Sunnis are calling for a vote of the citizens to make the law official.

Al-Sharqiyah TV reports in Arabic the Parliament postponed work until next Monday as chronic absenteeism and boycotts have plagued the legislative body. Although there is general dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government, the latest backlash is regarding the oil law.

The law has been negotiated for nearly a year and was approved suddenly last week by the Council of Ministers. But numerous roadblocks remain for the law, which will govern exploration and development of the third-largest reserves in the world.

The Kurds are against a law that gives too much control to the federal government and the Iraq National Oil Co. Voices of Iraq reports the Kurdish Coalition wants the draft passed by the ministers altered to reflect their concerns.

Mahmoud Othman, whose political bloc holds 55 seats in Parliament, the second largest, said, "The draft referred to the Iraqi Parliament for debate and approval is not the one agreed on with Kurdish leaders."

Sunnis, with little oil land, fear a decentralized oil sector will hurt their share of income and investment. Hussein al-Falluji, a parliamentarian from the Tawafuq Party, which has boycotted Parliament, called for a national referendum to weigh the oil law, Iraqslogger.com reports.

Meanwhile, Maliki's government is urging the law is passed soon, pressed by the Bush administration for signs of progress.

What is so clear about it? Do you really think that their main concern is Revaluation of their currency. I think there is a boat load of more important issues to deal with than RVing the dinar. The end game is not RV. Hate to tell you it is only part of the equation.

USS Enterprise fleet is on its way the the gulf region. Even France is turning somewhat of a corner. People say "its going to be like this or like that", I say a BIG BS on you. Never give up in what you believe in. If you believe an RV won't happen. Then you believe it and you will get out. Us that really believe it will happen will also believe when it won't happen, if and when so we shall act in our own accord. Don't believe the Dems !!! Or the turncoat republicans. First of all WE are not leaving IRAQ !!! Bush will leave every one of our troops there till inaguration day 2009. I say fooey to those who say that blood has been spilled for nothing. Never before have we had bases in Iraq, almost unimaginable in the past. but we are there now and will be there from now on. Lets just say that the Dems win, what about Iran? Don't you think that Mr. My mood Im in a Jihad will be waving the preverbial RED button that is pointed at Isreal. I say how now brown cow ? Either you believe in slow grow or you don't. IMO slow grow won't work, but I can live with that. I am young enough. Keep the faith people, If it fails we all fail. :)

Yes they have bigger fish to fry.
Lets start with implementing the FIL. Maybe that would combat the 60+% unemplyment rate. Thats a start. After all, Idle hands are the Devils workshop. While we're at it, lets get the HCL done. Let the BILLIONS of outside money pour into the country. Put people to work.
Oh and oh yeah, we kind of forgot. Lets make the currency worth more than the toilet paper that way too few Iraqis use. Yes its a piece of the puzzle, and IMO a big piece!

Two Points, havent they held meeting in secrecy when they said they were taking a break? Could this be the case. As for our Congress, I think that 90 percent of the Dems and Repubs do not want us to succeed. I know Pelosi and Reid do not want us to win, why? They have staked their entire political future on the failure. They are so corrupt as to the earmarks etc, that if people actually looked at them, they would be appalled. Their thing is Bit.. Moan and Complain loud enough, no one will look at them for the devious deeds that they are doing. It is a shame that we, as the American Public, cannot initiate a Constitutional Amendment to limit them two two terms only. What does everyone else think?
