Anbar, Jul 20, (VOI) – Iraqi local police said on Friday that the leader of al-Qaeda in the western region of Iraq was killed and four gunmen were arrested as they clashed with Iraqi police forces in Ramadi, 110 km west of Baghdad.
"Heavy clashes erupted between the Iraqi forces and gunmen from al-Qaeda organization on the international highway about 60 km west of Ramadi," the source, who asked not to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The source added "the clashes that continued for nearly 20 minutes, led to the killing of Kamal al-Issawi, the so-called al-Qaeda leader in western part of Iraq."
Ramadi is the capital city of the Sunni province of Anbar.
