Arbil, Jul 28, (VOI) – The Iraqi Kurdistan parliament will debate a draft law on oil and gas in Iraq's Kurdistan region next week, a Kurdish legislator said on Saturday.

"We'll start our sessions with a debate on the draft law on oil and gas next week without any crucial differences among the parliamentary blocs," Othman Bani Marani, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
Although the parliamentary recess has started on July 1, 2007, to continue until September 1, 2007, the sessions will resume debating the draft due to its importance, Marani said.
The Iraqi Kurdistan parliament is composed of two main blocs: the green bloc of the PUK, a party that is led by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, and the yellow bloc of Iraqi Kurdistan President Massoud Barazani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), in addition to other blocs representing Kurdish parties.
The green bloc had asked during Tuesday's session to have the debate on the draft law on oil and gas in Kurdistan postponed but the request was turned down by the parliament speaker. The bloc walked out of the session in protest.
"The draft is of paramount importance and needed more time to debate for it would organize the process of extracting, refining and selling oil and gas," Marani, explaining why his bloc exited the session, said.
